LONG ISLAND WINE COUNTRY

Labor Day weekend, we dropped Big Bub off at the grandparents' and met up with my cousin and two best friends from high school. There's no better way to enjoy the change of season, colorful foliage, and brisk, fall air than with a glass of wine, at a winery, in the middle of a vineyard, on the North Fork of Long Island.

Along the way, we passed through Jamesport, a town my senior high school prom party spent the weekend after the big night.  We also drove past a sign for Elbow Room East, a restaurant we celebrated in.  It got me thinking about the teenage me, Glamagirl, and I pondered what she would have thought if she was told on prom weekend that 15 years in the future she would be driving through the same town to meet her same best friends for an afternoon at the vineyards.  That she was married with a big, beautiful baby boy and an affectionate Mapu.  That she lived in Manhattan and wrote a blog about her experiences.

Other than asking, What the hell is a blog?!  I'd like to think Glamagirl would be elated and full of anticipation.  Most of all, I believe she'd be thankful to know that she still has the same amazing people in her life and some new ones too.

There are a few big name wineries but my favorites are the more intimate like Croteaux, Lenz, The Old Field, and Sparking Pointe

We capped off the day with an early dinner at VINe in Greenport.  The food is out of this world!  Cheers to Executive, Chef Steven Lewis.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?

Considering this is what I looked like on a recent flight (and allegedly I always look this way when sleeping upright), it's a sin that I didn't come up with this:

It's called the Snazzy Napper and when I saw it this morning on TODAY with Kathie Lee & Hoda, instead of laughing, I cried.

I cried because I should have invented the Snazzy Napper.  And if I had, I could be retired and spending all my time here.

Glamadad's really the one who should have conceived the idea since he's the poor soul that has to look at me.  So I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

Liz from a belle, a bean & a chicago dog also had one of those discoveries recently.

What should you have invented?

WHO WORE IT BEST?

                 Sofia Vergara ___%                               Glamamom  ___%
The Modern Family actress carried her Carlos Falchi Metallic Microfiber Tote wearing WorkCustom's Gidget jeans in Hollywood.  Glamamom carried hers while wearing a Gap striped racerback dress in NYC.

Since I was once Broke-Ass Jill, I jumped at the chance to contribute to Broke-Ass Stuart's Goddamn Website.

And what do you know, my cautionary tale suggestion was featured in Mikey Rox's 6 Ways to Spice Up Your Sex Life Without Spending a Cent.

The best things in life really are free.

Care to share your secret(s) to maintaining the spice?

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD?

{Photo via slightlywarped.com}
This guy lives 3 doors down.

Yep.

His name his name is Wallace Shawn.

I just looked it up.

Every time I see him, I want to say something because the truth is, I love his work.  The Princess Bride? Clueless? Gossip Girl?

Masterpieces.

Debbie Harry lives across the street.

My cousin and I bumped into her one night while walking Mapu.  She has two Japanese Spaniels so we got to talking.  Strangely, my cuz had no idea who she was nor what she sang (I know, right?!).  So I started singing a bunch of her songs, including the more recent, Maria

Later that evening, I was reading The Girl Who Played With Fire, and a line on like page two hundred thirty ? read something like, He walked over to the cd player sitting on the shelf and put on Debbie Harry's "Maria."

True story.

Remember when I bumped into Nate Berkus last month at dinner?

He lives in a fabulous new development by Jean Nouvel called 100 Eleventh that overlooks Chelsea Piers and the High Line.

I hope to bump into him again so I can beg him to come "help me finish decorating my apartment."

Further proof that everything in the universe is intertwined, a few weeks ago I was catching up on Design Star then saw Genevieve Gorder and her family the following day.

I've seen her in the 'hood a couple of times before but turns out we live back to back.  We also share a birthday.

I have yet to try and stalk one of my famous neighbors or sell a photo of them to the tabloids but with the widespread hysteria surrounding celebrities these days, maybe I should consider moonlighting as a Paparazza.

The best part, is that it always makes for a good story when I've just rolled out of bed and run out to grab a coffee (sans brushing my teeth or putting on contacts) and bump into Ethan Hawke or Mario Cantone.  I know Mario could give a city rat's ass what I look like but I'm not-so-secretly hoping that maybe one day we'll have a Charlotte/Anthony Marentino relationship.

Which celebrity do you wish lived in your neighborhood?

EMMYS 2010 RED CARPET FASHIONS: OOHS & BOOS

Awards shows don't do it for me anymore but the fashion always sucks me back in.  Last night's Emmy Awards had a few oohs but overall I was underwhelmed.  Is originality and a good tailor too much to ask for?

Oohs:

Edie Falco in Bottega Veneta
Perfection.
January Jones in Versace and Cartier jewels
This unexpected dress has been taking a beating and I don't like it one bit.  I was surprised and dazzled and in true Versace fashion, it fit like a glove.  The hair is a miss but I forgive Jones for taking a risk.
Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen
I understand why this isn't going to win the popular vote but I adore the dress and the styling is spot on minus the clunky shoes.

Claire Danes in Armani Privé
Danes was almost a perfect 10 for me despite her unnaturally long eye lashes.  Her spray tan was also slightly off.  She should have called Tamar.
Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuillier and Ofira jewels
I'm partial to Lhullier since I got married in one.  I love the color and Sedgwick doesn't look a day over 30!
Boos:
Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta & Lorraine Schwartz jewels
This look got a lot of raves but for me, Michele missed the note.  She looks like she's being swallowed by ruffles and the top is ill-fitting.  Her hair and jewelry are too heavy for an ornate gown.  GLAMADAD DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT...Nothing ages a woman more than big, expensive jewels.
Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen
I love Zac Posen but this is red hot mess.  The color, the feathers, the hair?  Oy.
Kerry Russell in a Jean Louis Scherrer dress from Decades and Cathy Waterman jewels
Felicity will always hold a special place in my heart but I can't turn a blind eye to the top of this dress.  There is no excuse.  Those shoes are killer though.
Padma Laksmi in Carolina Herrera
You know I love me some Padma but what's up with the bib?  Props for the fierce pose.

Lo Bosworth in Karen Caldwell
This is just a disaster from head to toe.  Ill-fitting, unflattering length for her petite frame, Masters Champion green?  Head for the hills Lo.  $100K per episode is enough for a stylist.

Who were your oohs & boos?
