EMMYS 2010 RED CARPET FASHIONS: OOHS & BOOS

Awards shows don’t do it for me anymore but the fashion always sucks me back in.  Last night’s Emmy Awards had a few oohs but overall I was underwhelmed.  Is originality and a good tailor too much to ask for?

Oohs:

Edie Falco in Bottega Veneta
Perfection.
January Jones in Versace and Cartier jewels
This unexpected dress has been taking a beating and I don’t like it one bit.  I was surprised and dazzled and in true Versace fashion, it fit like a glove.  The hair is a miss but I forgive Jones for taking a risk.
Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen
I understand why this isn’t going to win the popular vote but I adore the dress and the styling is spot on minus the clunky shoes.
Claire Danes in Armani Privé
Danes was almost a perfect 10 for me despite her unnaturally long eye lashes.  Her spray tan was also slightly off.  She should have called Tamar.
Kyra Sedgwick in Monique Lhuillier and Ofira jewels
I’m partial to Lhullier since I got married in one.  I love the color and Sedgwick doesn’t look a day over 30!

Boos:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta & Lorraine Schwartz jewels
This look got a lot of raves but for me, Michele missed the note.  She looks like she’s being swallowed by ruffles and the top is ill-fitting.  Her hair and jewelry are too heavy for an ornate gown.  GLAMADAD DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS POINT…Nothing ages a woman more than big, expensive jewels.
Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen
I love Zac Posen but this is red hot mess.  The color, the feathers, the hair?  Oy.
Kerry Russell in a Jean Louis Scherrer dress from Decades and Cathy Waterman jewels
Felicity will always hold a special place in my heart but I can’t turn a blind eye to the top of this dress.  There is no excuse.  Those shoes are killer though.
Padma Laksmi in Carolina Herrera
You know I love me some Padma but what’s up with the bib?  Props for the fierce pose.
Lo Bosworth in Karen Caldwell
This is just a disaster from head to toe.  Ill-fitting, unflattering length for her petite frame, Masters Champion green?  Head for the hills Lo.  $100K per episode is enough for a stylist.

Who were your oohs & boos?

DADA MONSTER

A GRIPE & A LAUGH

This post could have easily been titled, A Gripe & A Gripe because I’m just back from vacation and generally cranky.

So here it goes.

I HATE Blogger and can’t wait to get out.  I’m on a waiting list for a really fabulous designer that’s going to give Glamamom a face lift and transition her into Word Press.

My number one issue with Blogger is the comments feature.  I’ve turned off the word verification security feature yet still receive emails each week from people telling me they couldn’t figure out how to comment on a post.  I occasionally receive spam comments but Blogger catches them and deletes them automatically.  Still, most blogs hosted by Blogger utilize the word verification feature, making it a total pain in the ass to leave comments, especially if it’s a giveaway and you’re being asked to leave more than one.

Occasionally though, I’ll get a funny word that makes me laugh, like earlier today when I was commenting on a DIY blog.

This is my last name, if you say the y with a long e:

Yep, that’s how you pronounce my last name.  Go ahead, laugh.  I do.

JUST ACQUIRED

Strolling around the West Village yesterday with my friend Celina in town from El Salvador, we popped into Brooklyn Industries for some t-shirts.  I was surprised to find this Troupe Vest and quickly snatched it up (ignore the hein styling):

I love vests for layering over t-shirts, turtlenecks, and dress shirts, and particularly the military inspiration,  tailoring, and dark gray wool of this one.

We also had lunch at Alexandra and dessert at Le Pain Quotidien:

What’s the likelihood I still fit into the vest by the time fall rolls around?

EUCERIN SKINCARE {GIVEAWAY} ***CLOSED***

A few weeks ago, I interviewed top New York City dermatologist Debra Wattenberg for Moms Who Rock and got to thinking a lot about skincare protection since her number one tip for maintaining healthy skin is wearing sunscreen every day.  I’m religious about wearing SPF on my face but have been pretty lax about the body.

At BlogHer, I found myself drawn to Eucerin’s Skin FIRST exhibit and taking a pledge to make skincare a priority.

Eucerin’s Skin FIRST movement was founded to raise awareness of the importance of skin health and encourage consumers to begin taking better care of their skin by taking a pledge that states that each person who signs it will protect and defend his or her skin, make skincare a priority, and treat skincare like healthcare.

For each pledge signed, Eucerin also makes a donation to HealthyWomen.org, the nation’s leading independent health information source for women.

Visit Eucerin’s Facebook page for more info.

To help YOU jump start your Skin FIRST pledge, Eucerin is giving TWO Glamamom readers a GIFT BAG including: Eucerin Daily Skin Balance Body Lotion, Daily Skin Balance Hand Crème as well as the Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30 and/or the Everyday Protection Body Lotion SPF 15, and a Eucerin Health & Wellness Journal.

Eucerin® Daily Skin Balance Fortifying Body Lotion and Daily Skin Balance Hand Crème are the perfect moisturizers to defend against environmental stressors.  The combination of provitamin B5, glycerin, and a PH buffer keeps skin strong and moisturized all day long with just one application.

Eucerin® Everyday Protection Body Lotion and Everyday Protection Face Lotion keep skin healthy and protect against dry skin by moisturizing for 24 hours, helping to prevent skin aging and cancer, long-term damage and skin cancer by providing broad-spectrum sun protection.  They absorb quickly without any greasy feeling on the skin.

If you’re anything like me, this lotion is the perfect solution for moisturizing and SPF protection in one step. And it really does go on smooth as opposed to others lotions I’ve tried that leave a heavy, sticky feeling.

All products are conveniently available at Amazon, all food, drug, and mass merchandisers nationwide.

LULULEMON ATHLETICA VIDEO SHOOT

This morning I worked out under awesomely unique circumstances.

My friend Natalia, who I wrote about here, is a lululemon athletica ambassador and starring in a musical that the apparel company is producing to promote the brand.

Despite my two left feet, Natalia invited me to participate in the intenSati class that was being filmed for the video at Flywheel Sports Flatiron.

I can only imagine how ridiculous I looked chanting I am strong! then realizing I’m completely out of step but Sati is just so damn fun and I’m so happy to have taken part.

If you’re in NY, you MUST try this class at Equinox!

This morning’s crew including Missy Maintains, an inspirational healthy lifestyle blogger.

Here’s a little behind the scenes action showing just how motivational Natalia is:

Hopefully I’ll be able to share the finished product at some point.

Namaste!

MAPUCHE TURNS TWO!

Happy 2nd birthday to my 1st baby!!!
