SOAP.COM $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE {GIVEAWAY} ***CLOSED***

Leveraging off the success of Diapers.com, which services more than 500,000 moms and dads nationwide, founders Marc Lore and Vinit Bharara launched sister site Soap.com this past summer, offering 25,000 products and over 900 brands of everyday essentials.

Soap.com has everything from paper towels, laundry detergent, and garbage bags to toothpaste, vitamins, make-up, and shampoo.

Customers can shop from both Soap.com and Diapers.com in the same order by simply adding items from either site to their shopping carts, which are shared between the two sites.

Best of all, 1-2 day shipping is free on all orders over $25, a total game changer for city dwellers like me that don’t have the ability to buy in bulk or the space to store it.

As if 25,000 products and free 1 to 2 day shipping at the click of a mouse isn’t convenient enough, Soap.com announced this week that Manhattan residents can now get same-day delivery when their order is placed by 9 a.m. EST.

How awesome is that NYers?!  No more schlepping heavy bags of detergent and bulky paper towels back from the store!  I feel liberated already.  And while FreshDirect is great, it doesn’t offer same-day delivery nor the range of products available at Soap.com/Diapers.com.

SHOP IT: If you’re not using Soap.com, CHECK IT OUT and get 15% off your first order using code JASC2681.

WIN IT: Soap.com is giving one Glamamom reader a $50 Gift Certificate to be used on Soap.com and/or Diapers.com.  All readers are eligible however, Soap.com/Diapers.com only delivers in the United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

Leave a comment below telling me what you hate shopping for that you can now purchase via Soap.com and Diapers.com.

THE CHRISTMAS BOOK {NEIMAN MARCUS}

Neiman Marcus unveiled its 84th Christmas Book earlier this month, reminding us that the holidays are right around the corner.

To be exact, Christmas is in 66 days, 8 hours, 5 minutes, and 15 seconds.  Not that I’m counting or anything.

In the past, I remained in denial about it until well after Thanksgiving.  Since I’m a mom now, I’m going to attempt to prep early and avoid any final hour sprees during which I inevitably spend way too much money and jeopardize years of life expectancy with stress and anxiety.

The Christmas Book provides a ton of inspiration (maybe not for things I would buy for others but certainly things I would like to receive or buy for myself!) with its Fab Finds, Little Gems (Neiman Marcus’ Collection $100 and under), and of course, the always anticipated Fantasy Gifts.

This year’s ultra luxury gifts include: a MetroShip Luxury Houseboat, a His & Hers Diamond & Gold Charm Bracelet (I’m not sure where the his comes into play but let’s assume it means his credit card paid for it), a Neiman Marcus Edition Camaro Convertible, a ukulele handmade from a gourd (that’s some fantasy), and my personal fave:

$15,000 Edible Gingerbread Playhouse from Dylan's Candy Bar

Holiday 2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of His & Hers gifts and Neiman Marcus’ charitable partner this year is Big Brothers Big Sisters, an organization dedicated to improving children’s lives by pairing them with role models within their communities, and one that I’m very fond of.  A portion of each His & Hers Ornament sold this year will benefit BBBS.

To view the complete Christmas Book, visit Neiman Marcus.

So tell me, have you begun your holiday shopping yet?

{WINNER} NEW BALANCE SNEAKERS

MY LITTLE SUNSHINE

Yesterday was a rough day for me. I pulled a muscle in my back and in an unrelated incident, a pair of leopard print shoes ate both my heels (Nike Air technology, my arse), forcing me to cancel my airbrushing appointment and other errands, sigh.

I scheduled Big Bub’s first official haircut at the new children’s boutique/hair salon, My Little Sunshine, and since it’s just ’round the corner we hobbled over and watched how a real hairstylist does it:

In addition to children’s haircuts, the Chelsea shop carries baby and children’s clothing, accessories, toys and gifts from brands such as aden + anias, Oeuf, Jellycat, Splendid, Imps & Elfs, Bear Feet, and Trumpet.

Don’t worry, we checked their creds and everything’s kosher:

Bub really held it together and looks super cute with his new ‘do. My advice for a painless first haircut experience?

  • Find a shop/stylist that specializes in children’s cuts
  • Schedule the appointment for first thing in the morning or after nap time so that you present a well-rested client
  • Bring snacks/treats as a bribe reward
  • Step back before you leave to evaluate the cut so that adjustments can be made on the spot.

My Little Sunshine: 177 Ninth Avenue between 20th and 21st Streets (212-929-0887). Mon-Sat 10am-7pm; Sun 11am-7pm.

HEIDI KLUM FOR NEW BALANCE LAUNCH PARTY

I celebrated the launch of Glamamom Heidi Klum’s activewear collection, Heidi Klum for New Balance, at Cedar Lake in West Chelsea last night.

Busy women, like me, have changed their way of shopping.  We now shop online, remarked Ms. Klum.  Our lives as mothers, wives, working women have become so much more than ever before.  Whether we are dropping the kids off at school, going out with friends, running errands, running to meetings or swinging by your favorite coffee shop in the morning, we all have one thing in common – we want to be stylish, comfortable and hip! Amen!

HKNB includes haute tunics, knits, woven tops, leggings and outerwear, perfect for modern-women on the go.  Just look how comfy and stylish:

Developed to fit every body type and designed with cottons and silks that incorporate hand-woven stitching and intricate details, the pieces are now available exclusively on Amazon in the United States and will be available in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan at the end of the month.  Each retails for between $32 and $168.

Like the upcoming ad campaign for the collection, Ms. Klum conceptualized the launch event with a trampoline!  We have one in our backyard and my kids love it, so I spend a lot of time on it myself!

It’s too bad they didn’t invite us guests to join in but I do love the idea of an unconventional runway show.  We were also treated to a screening of last night’s episode of Project Runway alongside past and current designers and models including: Andy South, Ivy Higa, Ping Wu, Kenley Collins, Emilio Sosa, Peach Carr, and Anthony Williams.  The HKNB collection features looks designed by this week’s challenge-winner Andy South.

Heidi Klum is a tough act to follow

Have a great weekend.

THE INVESTED LIFE

Suzanne Sena, Host of "The Invested Life"

Last Thursday, I attended TD Ameritrade’s launch of The Invested Life, an MSNMoney, online reality series featuring ordinary people from across the U.S. facing some of today’s most common money concerns, paired with independent financial advisors to help them take control of their finances.

No, Glamamom doesn’t sit around reading US Weekly all day. I’m a financial literacy advocate and believe that as women wield greater financial power, the more essential it is that we educate ourselves about how to manage money.

Research shows that despite such advancement, women display significantly lower levels of financial literacy than men and are less comfortable discussing money and financial concepts:

  • It is estimated that 50 percent of women between the ages of 24 and 35 have less than $500 in savings.
  • Almost 1 in 4 women are broke within two months of a husband passing away.
  • 53% of women are not covered by a pension compared to only 22% of men.
  • More than half of senior citizens living in poverty are women.

While not exclusively aimed at women, The Invested Life series is a unique online experience that encourages its viewers to “match” their personal investment style to the cast member they relate to most, and learn from their experiences. It also maximizes social media by providing Twitter feeds, Facebook pages, and blog postings that allow viewers to follow the progress of the investors as they work to overcome their financial challenges.

At the launch, I participated in a media “speed dating” session to meet the cast/investors and their independent financial experts. Two stories struck a nerve for me: Kathleen Lansing, a small business owner trying to figure out how to reach her retirement goals while maximizing the potential of her business; and Jennifer Sherwood, a recently widowed New Yorker left with a sizable portfolio and little investment knowledge. I look forward to following both their stories in the four to five minute episodes each week.

We could all be characters on The Invested Life. What are your financial goals? When was the last time you spoke openly about them? Do you feel you’re doing everything you can to achieve them?

As financial strategist Matthew Sapaula advises, It’s your money, it’s your life, and no one should care about it as much as you.

{Glamamom was not paid for this post but was invited to attend a premier party for The Invested Life.  Please contact me via email if you would like source information for any of the statistics provided herein.}
