BEAUTY 411: HYPNOSE DOLL LASHES

When I first started Glamamom, I took you inside my make-up bag and professed my loyalty to the products that made me feel like a million bucks. But as I began covering more beauty topics, I’ve broadened my horizons and have been trying tons of new product. The one constant, is Lancôme Hypnôse mascara.

I just got the new Hypnôse Doll Lashes and true to its name, it goes on smooth, with no clumps, lifts, thickens and sculpts, to create the wide-eye, mod 60′s glam look, which I naturally love love love!

The cone-shaped applicator narrows at the tip for easy application on the lower lashes and despite wearing it all day, doesn’t rub off onto my brow or under-eye, which is a typical problem I have.

The packing is similar to others Hypnôse formulas– a chic black tube but with little roses on it.  Doll Lashes is also paraben, sulfate, and fragrance-free.

What do you think?  Do you like the wide-eye look?  What mascara do you wear?

The 1st Doll Lash Look by Lancôme: a volumized, full lash fringe for a wide-eye look. Lancôme’s most flirtatious mascara lifts, thickens and precisely defines even hard-to-reach corners and lower lashes beautifully. Visit Lancome US on Facebook to create your own Doll avatar.

MODE MONDAY: SHESTREAMS, SHEWEARS

This past weekend I attended SheStreams 2011, an annual social media conference hosted by Maria Bailey of BSM Media.

The 2-day event was conveniently located at the Crowne Plaza, Times Square, only a few subway stops away.

It was great catching up with blogger friends, especially those from out of town and meeting new people. I was also particularly inspired by the many panels on vlogging and live streaming and already have some ideas in motion for video content that I think you’ll find fun and informative. Now if I can only curb my urge to go all “Heidi Montag” after seeing myself on camera, I’ll be set.  But that’s another story.

For my full SheStreams 2011 photo album, visit Glamamom on Facebook but here’s what I wore:

Day 1

{H&M blazer and capris, J.Crew shirt, Zara Brogue ankle boot, Michael Kors watch, gifted Kara Ross cuff, Balenciaga Day bag.}

Day 2, no rain but more capris!

{J.Crew Natasha top and Cafe capri pants, Delman heels (via TJMaxx), Banana Republic belt, Michael Kors watch, gifted Stella & Dot Serpent bracelet, gifted LOFT limited edition Breast Cancer Research Fund bracelet, LV tote (similar), necklace from the gift shop at Congress Hall. MAMA’S GOT A BRAND NEW BRA

After discovering I was wearing the wrong size bra, thanks to measurement tips and a confirmation call with 123underwear.com to discuss my fit concerns and style “likes and dislikes,” they sent me a fabulous new bra and bikini set to test drive.

The Elle Macpherson Sheer Ribbons Contour bra fits great, provides the little bit of padding I requested, underwire for lift, and a glamorous design with lace and bows– a sexy foundation, even if I’m just wearing jeans and T-shirt.

They look ever so slightly different on me but I’m too modest to show mine (again), so I borrowed these body parts from the website.

Comfortable, cute, and just my size.  What more can a Glamamom ask for?

The October issue of Cosmopolitan is on newsstands now.  As if Shrink Your Inner Thighs and 21 Naughty Sex Tips isn’t enough, I’m on page 30 as part of Cosmo’s blogger network:

MODE MONDAY: DINNER WITH GLAM AT BARNEYS NEW YORK

I feel like Cinderella must have when the clock struck midnight.

The past week was 7 days of fabulous fashion and friends, which has now come to an end. The Glam team, including CEO Samir Arora, hosted 100 of its publishers and friends for cocktails and dinner, appropriately at Fred’s in Barney’s New York, to get to know one another better and send off the season in style.

It was the cherry on top of the sundae that is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

With Sebastian celebrating his second birthday and starting school, it’s fair to say that this has been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had all summer. I loved every minute but I have to admit, I’m looking forward to slowing down a bit and getting back into my workout routine, which I totally fell off of.

LINGERIE 911: HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BRA SIZE

It’s estimated that a whopping 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Comforting to know I’m not alone.

Thanks to 123underwear.com, I learned that not only was I wearing the wrong cup size but band size too. I’m not surprised since I’ve never found my bras particularly comfortable and my weight has obviously fluctuated with being pregnant, nursing, etc.

Wondering if you’re wearing the correct bra size? It’s pretty simple to measure. 123underwear sent me a tape measure with the following instructions and I had a quick call with a consultant to confirm:

Measurement A: Find your bust size
• With a soft tape measure, measure the fullest part of your bust. Be sure you are standing straight. If the measurement falls between inches (36.5, 32.1, etc.), the safer bet is to round up.

Measurement B: Find your band size
• Now measure around your rib cage, directly under your bust. The tape measure should fit snugly, but should not feel constricting. If you have an even-number measurement, add two inches. If you have an odd-number measurement, add three inches.

Find your cup size
• Subtract measurement B from measurement A. Then follow the chart below:

If The Difference Is… Your Cup Size Is
Less than 1 AA
1 A
2 B
3 C
4 D
5 DD or E
6 DDD or F
7 DDDD or G

And just like that I went from a 36B to a 34C.

123underwear’s owner Beverly Russina also offers the following professional tips on how your bra should fit:

Front of the bra…
• Underwire must lie flat against your rib cage. Breast tissue should not be billowing out from below the underwire. Basically, underwire should not be resting on breast tissue but on bone.
• Your breast tissue should sit comfortably within your bra cups – with no excess material. Breast tissue should not be billowing out the top or sides of your cups.
• The bridge of the bra must be flat between your breasts

Back of the bra…
• Your bra band lies straight across your back. It should not squeeze, dig or leave marks. It should stay in place and not ride up or down.
• Bra straps must stay in place. No rolling down or digging into your shoulders.

Always remember that your breasts should be perched upright in your cups. For truly proper support your breasts should be sitting – halfway – between shoulder and elbow.

So tell me, have you too been wearing the wrong size?

NYFW: NORMA KAMALI 3D PRESENTATION

Stay true to who you are and reinvent to be relevant.  Norma Kamali

As a leading innovator in the fashion industry, it should come as no surprise that legendary designer Norma Kamali playfully presented her Spring 2012 collection by way of 3D technology. After all, she was among the first to launch an e-commerce website, open a store on eBay, design an affordable collection (for Walmart), and offer exclusive sales for her Facebook fans.

The 67 looks were showcased during an eight-minute, 3D fashion film and the Web’s first 3D video shopping pages in the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center.  Guests received a pair of custom-designed, cat-eye glasses to view the film on a huge screen and laptops were available to view the video shopping pages which debuted yesterday, worldwide.

Also present, were the two bubbly stars of the 3D film, wearing full neon looks from Kamali’s Spring 2012 Collection:

The presentation magnified the lighthearted and quirky side Kamali is known for, as do her edgy, retro-inspired designs. You can get your own pair of 3D glasses on the website or Facebook and see for yourself.

Speaking of fashion legends, while hanging out at Lincoln Center taking pictures and inhaling the style, we saw the fiery Patricia Field dashing to the Michael Kors show, which certainly added to the euphoria brought on by Fashion Week.

NYFW: WALTER SPRING 2012 FASHION PRESENTATION

Thanks to Mintbox, I literally had my head in the clouds earlier this week at a presentation of Walter Baker’s Spring 2012 Collection at The Empire Hotel Rooftop Lounge.

Mixing urban and exotic, the collection offers a wide range of pieces including jackets, printed tops and dresses, and shorts. The long, flowy and feminine silhouettes are contrasted with constructed, super short ones for a girly but modern look. “My clothes tend to attract uptown girls with a downtown sensibility,” says Baker.

The natural lightening and rooftop setting put the clothes in context but the cuts and styling comes off a little too “youthful” for me personally. What do you think?

And for fun…

No red leather pants though. BOO!

SCHOOL DAZE

Sebastian is officially a school boy.

He started a gradual separation, 2′s program yesterday and I know it’s going to be great for him in terms of socialization and verbal development.  He’s the biggest in his class (and has the most hair, shocker!), although the youngest, which will have its issues but it’s hard to feel sad that my baby is growing up when he wants it so badly. Sebastian has always been eager to do things for himself and I’m spellbound watching him come into his own.
