Sebastian isn’t much into cartoons yet. I don’t mean that in a, my kid doesn’t watch t.v., *nose in the air* kind-of-way. I’d welcome the chance to make a cup of coffee by myself in the morning, he’s just busy doing more creative things like hiding my keys and ripping the “G” off my keyboard. But there are two programs that are guaranteed to capture his attention, if only for a few minutes at a time– Barney and Yo Gabba Gabba.
While Barney makes me want to take a knife to my ear, I actually look forward to Yo Gabba Gabba with its special guests, original music, and dancey dances.
When it came time to pick a theme for Sebastian’s second birthday party last month at City Treehouse, I gave him a choice between the two, and (thank you Baby Jesus) he chose Yo Gabba:
As part of his birthday present, we got tickets to see the cast live at The Beacon Theatre and to attend a meet and greet after the show.
He was shell-shocked for much the performance but definitely jumped, shook, and shimmied around. I did too, especially when Biz Markie made a surprise appearance and belted out “Just a Friend.”
Don’t let the serious face fool you, Sebastian was his typical hugging monster self at the meet and greet and patiently waited in each character’s individual line for the opportunity to give high fives and hugs:
He also had story time with DJ Lance Rock and got to say hello:
Between DJ Lance and Arianna Huffington, Leo and I are going to have to step up our bedtime story game!

How fun! I bet he LOVED it!! We saw Yo Gabba Gabba live last year and the girls loved it. So sad though they aren’t coming again this year =/

So fun! Yo Gabba Gabba is the only show my kid watches, and I admit I sorta love it too. He is gonna go as DJ Lance or Robey for Halloween, eagerly awaiting his final decision.

What amazing photos….for some reason Connor isn’t into Ya Gabba Gabba…what I do get is a full HOUR of coffee and blogging while he watches back to back Mickey Mouse Club House…I swear, you can’t tear him away. Everything else ….eh, he moves on to puzzles and torturing our two dogs or tearing the house apart…damn, I LOVE that hour.
* he used to be so into Imagination Movers and I took him to see them live in Red Bank…his mouth dropped open and didn’t shut for a n hour and a half..I just don’t think he could BELIEVE it….they were there in REAL LIFE. lol

My bestie took her son as well and LOVED it. What an awesome birthday present for Sebastian. We have yet to attend any live performances (or even watch a movie) – I’m curious about whether Nate’s attention would hold or we’d have to leave early. Sebastian looks pretty attentive

Just took my son to see the show on Saturday, and it was fun! He was spooked by the lights being out though, and it was a bit louder than I thought it would be. All in all, it was a good night. However–Biz came out and did his beat of the day, but didn’t sing his famous song–I was so disappointed!!!

PS: I used to love Barney, but when Aiden was addicted to it (around 18mths — 2yrs), I felt like I wanted to kill myself every time it was on.

Okay, I know this made Sebastian’s LIFE let alone his day!!! LOL!!! I would love to have seen the expression on his face when DJ Lance burst out of the screen and on to the stage! Even as an adult, the energy and excitement was almost too much too bear (lol).
Okay, I am super jealous that Biz Markie performed just a friend! He didnt do that at our show! (We were at the 2 pm).
