New Year’s resolutions get a bad rap. If you ask me, there’s no better time to re-evaluate your goals and what’s working in your life/not than the beginning of the year.

Some of my resolutions have remained constant since becoming a mom.  Achieving a better work/life balance and improving my time management are two ongoing struggles (and from what I understand, for most parents in general).  Undoubtedly, maintaining this blog contributes to some of these issues but it helps me honor another one of my steadfast resolutions, which is to take better care of myself.  The primary reason I started writing Glamamom, and why I continue to work so hard to maintain it, is to hold myself accountable and challenge myself to keep doing new things and meeting new people. Each year that passes, and each new life complication that emerges, I realize just how important commitment to oneself really is.

If you notice from my latest beauty reviews and Mode Monday posts, I’m making an effort to try new products that will help make me feel like a million bucks but without jeopardizing my life’s energy (thanks for the analogy Manisha).  I thought it would be fun to make some beauty resolutions this year too:

The first is to shop for lipstick when I’m feeling the emotional urge to buy clothes.  A new shade can change everything and I’ve had amazing success with Maybelline Sensational Lipcolors.  The bright reds and pinks are so fashion-forward and can really change up a look. The same goes for new nail colors from two of the best and most easily accessible, Essie and OPI. I used to hesitate about wearing color on my nails because the unsightly chipping kicked my OCD into high gear but then I realized that manicures are just a fun way to express myself so now I’m always reaching for new colors like the grays, greens, and blues.

My hair is pretty low maintenance but with the deep winter setting in, I vow to use a daily conditioner, plus a weekly, five-minute masque for the extra dose of hydration hair needs in the dryer months. I’m a huge Pantene fan and just got the Intensive Restoration Treatment.

Lastly, I want to turn the temperature down on my showers and take that extra 30 seconds to apply moisturize from head to toe. I’m religious about my face but in a time crunch, the body always gets neglected. Plus, there are so many moisturizers that work double-, sometimes triple-duty, as a lotion/sunscreen/anti-aging treatment/self-tanner/perfume.

Phew.  I’m going to be busy.

Did you make any beauty resolutions?  If not, it’s never too late!

  1. I didn’t make any resolutions but what I would like to do is……
    1. Tighten up this body of mine. Not necessarily lose weight just keep it TOGETHER
    2. Start wearing polish more often on fingers and toes.
    3. Keep my hair trimmed so that the actual style can be expressed. Hate dead ends
    4. Buy a new wardrobe. I am going to do this with my tax return because being a pharmacist, I wear scrubs everyday to work and I hardly buy clothes. So excited to get started. May blog about it! :-)

Great resolutions! For me, I would love to get all my things organized. I have so many beauty products. Some I even forget about because I don’t have them nice and organized. So that would be a big one for me.

  3. We have the same beauty resolution! I want to use a weekly masque on my hair too – I have so many samples built up that it’s time to start with them :) Just found your blog and love it!

  4. Great resolutions, I should take note from you and consider some of these my own.

  5. I like all of your resolutions..esp the one about buying lipstick before clothes..too cute:) Not sure it will work for me, total clothing addict over here…but worth a shot and certainly a lot less expensive.

As far as beauty resolutions go…One of mine is to always wash my face at night..I am USUALLY good..but sometimes I rely on my clarasonic in the shower the nex tday to get rid of all the dirt..and it can’t be good to sleep in makeup…

These are all great resolutions and mine is to paint my nails more frequently, and in new and different colours. The motivation 12 new colours from Zoya and Julep :) Mystery boxes are a good thing I’ve come to discover! You kind of have to utilize what you get :) Hello neon orange nail colour..haha

  7. I think my resolution will be just making an effort to put on makeup more when I go out. I’ve gotten a bit lazy! BTW, nice seeing you last night at the Honest Company event!

  8. I loooove Essie nail polish, but whenever I paint my own nails, it looks like my preschooler did it. Good luck with the resolutions! xo

I actually want to start doing more to feel good about myself which was why I went with a girlfriend last night for a mani. It had been ages! And when money’s a bit tight, I can always do them at home.

Also want to moisturize a lot more, too. Not sure about you, but I have such dry skin in the winter!

I use a deep conditioner on my hair once a week because it helps keep the hair strong and the color from fading as quickly. Plus, it just makes me feel better. I hate the dryness that comes with winter.

I am a nail polish fanatic. I have a ton. Yet I have neglected myself in the area of skin care. I have been taking steps to get a better cleaning regimen with good products and making sure I use an SPF moisturizer.

Speaking of lipstick I have become obsesses. I got some in a swag bag and since then I have been hooked. I think I am going to add that as a staple moving forward. I would also like to set up some type of organizational system for my accessories, makeup and nail polish.

  12. I need to use a moisturizer daily. I tend to let it go until my face starts getting dry instead of using it all the time.

Ugh. My hair is so dry and funky right now. I’m going to go check out that Pantene intensive stuff!
