Beauty Buzz | Neutrogena Naturals {Sponsored Review}

UPDATE 6/3/12: Thanks to a diligent reader, it has been brought to my attention that Neutrogena Naturals is currently facing a False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit, which claims that Neutrogena is using ‘“chemically-derived, synthetic fragrances” in its purifying facial cleanser, pore scrub, face and body bar, and fresh cleansing + makeup remover that are not necessary to blend the product or to maintain its effectiveness. The class action lawsuit also alleges that many of the ingredients Neutrogena claims to be “natural” are actually synthetically derived through processes that involve the use of chemicals and petrochemicals.’

I personally have had a positive experience with the products. However, if you are concerned about any of the ingredients, please consult a dermatologist/physician before use.

Earth Month served as a good reminder for me to take better care of myself, as well as the planet.  Education and awareness are key.  Also, effective alternative options to the every day products we use that contain harsh and potentially toxic chemicals.

I’ve gotten so used to the expected chemicals in beauty and skincare products that most of the time I don’t even bother to check the labels the way I do children’s products.  Now that I’m pregnant again though, I’m more diligent about which personal care and cleaning products I’m using.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been trying the new Neutrogena Naturals line of skincare, which is free of harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes, and phthalates.  If you have sensitive skin, you’re probably far more familiar with these ingredients than I am but I’ll tell you, I can rarely test new products without having some dryness or a breakout but this time around, my skin had no visible reaction whatsoever.

I’m currently using:

Fresh Cleansing Makeup Remover: On days when I wear a lot of make-up, I prefer to take it off with a makeup remover-specific product to ensure it penetrates deep and doesn’t irritate my eyes, as inevitably I have to scrub a little to remove the raccoon eyes.  Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing Makeup Remover is a creamy white, moisture-rich remover with a Peruvian Tara Seed bionutrient for softening and refreshing.  I’m happy with the results.  It gets the makeup off and leaves my skin feel refreshed, rather than parched and dried out, like some regular cleansers do. I also like that it’s in a pump, which I find easiest to use, especially when I’m in a rush.

Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer: A solid moisturizer is the most important skincare product for me.  I try to avoid moisturizers that are too heavy because I have combination skin and easily break out from clogged pores.  Neutrogena Naturals Moisturizer is a light formula so I’ve not had a problem.  My only complaint is that it does not contain SPF.  I prefer to get my sun protection in an all-in-one formula as it tends to be lighter and saves time and space.

Face & Body Bar: For days when I have limited shower time (i.e. anytime Sebastian is around) the Face & Bar is perfect. It’s gentle enough to clean and condition my face without over-drying, yet effective enough for all over.  I love products that work double duty!

Purifying Pore Scrub: I try to exfoliate 2-3 times per week.  I notice an immediate glow when I do and my skin just feels lighter, like it can breathe better.  Scrubs tend to be harsh but Neutrogena Naturals Pore Scrub is light and gentle and it’s smell is probably my favorite in the entire line.  It has a willowbark bionutrient and jojoba bead scrub with a light floral smell that instantly relaxes me.

Lip Balm: I’m a lip balm fanatic.  I can’t stand dry lips and keep a tube in every bag I own.  Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm comes in a standard size tube and contains Vitamin E for soothing, moisture and protection.  It goes on smooth and has a very light mint scent.

All in all, I’m very happy with the products I’m reviewing and definitely see myself using them going forward, especially because of the natural ingredients and affordable price points.

What about you?  Are you conscious of the ingredients in your beauty products?

  2. I was excited to try neutrogena naturals as my face has been breaking out a lot, what could be better than “natural” right?! I used to be a big fan of neutrogena until now. This line is not so naturtal as they claim, there is actually a lawsuit against neutrogena for false advertisement for even claiming these products are natural…
    Anyway when i started using these products it felt nice & soft but after 4 days of use my face began to get really irratated my face was red & bumpy like a rash & that is not including my acne lol. My skin is pretty sensitive the reaction this product gave me was most likley due to the fragrance that is in all the ingredients in this line. Fragrance for one is not a natural ingredient. I used the face cleanser, moisturizer, and the pore scrub, this was just my experience with the line, everyones reaction to products are different. :)

    Wana see the lawsuit against neutrogena yourself?? Coppy & paste link into URL:
