Scientists may believe dinosaurs became extinct over 65 years ago but they’re alive and well in Secaucus, New Jersey!
Bubba and I saw with our own wide eyes last weekend…
Field Station: Dinosaurs is a 20-acre, outdoor walking park with 31 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs exhibits, games, workshops, and entertainment.
Its website claims the park is 9 minutes from Manhattan and while that may be true for some parts of the city, it was about a 30-minute drive for us from Chelsea. You can also take New Jersey Transit, which I hear is quick and easy, and there is a free shuttle from the nearby train stop to Field Station. In any case, it’s well-worth the trip!
We had a gorgeous afternoon last Saturday (until the clouds rolled in, the sky turned dark, and it started pouring but we were on our way out so it didn’t put a damper on our visit at all). Sebastian was slightly apprehensive at first but within a few minutes he was in prehistoric heaven strolling the park and ogling the enormous dinos.
Each day, there’s an “expedition” consisting of activities, workshops, and entertainment that occur at different locations throughout the park every 30 minutes. We dug for fossils, colored dinosaur pictures, and played with LEGOs. Visitors are given a passport upon entry and earn a stamp for every expedition activity completed.
Visitor Tips:
- The parking lot is cash-only, very fitting for Jersey, wink. And yes, you will be directed to the nearest ATM if you don’t come prepared. I may have learned that first hand, ehem.
- Tickets are $25/adult and $20/child. There is a discount for purchasing tickets online in advance but they sell out so book as early as possible.
- Remember to apply and reapply sunblock. While the park is wooded and has plenty of shaded areas for rest stops, many of the walk ways are not shielded from the sun.
- Right now, the park is only open on the weekends. Starting June 21st, it will be open all 7 days.
- Food/snack options only include: hot dogs, popcorn, Italian Ices, and drinks. Plan accordingly.
A huge thank you to MamaDrama for letting us crash the party to review this truly spectacular experience. We had a dino-mite time!

I didn’t know that there was a free shuttle bus from NJ transit!! Ok, I will have to look into getting there…we don’t have a car, so must do mass transit. Looks like a great time. Was Bubba scared? I’m wondering if S will get a little scared by the dinosaurs???

He was little unsure at first bc some of the dino exhibits do make loud sounds but it only took him a few minutes to get used to it. I didn’t see any scared kids after the initial surprise. You should def try and go before it gets too hot/crowded! I think it’s amazing and TOTALLY worth the trip. Ellen from Baby Meets City was there and her 2.5ish daughter was loving it too…so was Emily from Big City Moms and her girls…

I can’t believe how big Bubba is getting.
He’s going to make an excellent big brother.

Great information. We were so bummed we couldn’t make it with the Mama Drama crew last weekend, but our resident Dino Dan is going to have his mind blown when we get there.
