Well, baby boy and I made it!  He’s full term now but this is when the real waiting begins, right?

Bubba of course came on his own terms and from what my OB tells me, second babies follow a similar course so I likely have a few weeks left of suffering.  Unless I follow the advice, “start having lots of sex.”  Um…

I hate to complain because I’m grateful to be having a relatively healthy pregnancy but I’ve been terribly uncomfortable for some time now.  The cold I came down with during BlogHer is lingering and I haven’t slept well in months.  The one thing in my favor is that despite the heat, I don’t have much swelling, which was a big issue during my first pregnancy.  Oh, and my nose didn’t grow 2 sizes so really I should just shut up and kiss the mirror.

I don’t have a contingency plan for the blog so you’ll have to bear with me.  I obviously have no idea how I’ll feel after delivery.  With Bubba, I had major surges of adrenaline for weeks and felt deliriously happy but I wasn’t much into sharing.  My main priority was getting comfortable nursing.  As a result, we received more than a few complaints and surprise reactions that we weren’t posting updates to Facebook and inviting people over but I was adamant about alone-time, which I stand by.

This time around, my biggest concern is how my sweet Bubba will react to the new baby.  He’s already dealing with so much between a new sitter, potty training, and starting preschool.  He appears to be excited about the idea of becoming a big brother but I know he doesn’t fully understand.  I gather he’s under the impression he’s getting a playmate like himself, not a helpless infant.  If his jealously towards the dog is any indication, this is going to rock his world.  I know the gift of a sibling is a wonderfully amazing thing, we’re just in such a good place right now I’m worried about the adjustment…for all of us.

Other than that, I need to make my final “to-do” list.  I don’t have much to buy but of course now I feel like this little guy deserves to have some shiny new stuff of his own so I have a short list.  There are also some apartment projects I want completed before my focus changes.

Stokke Baby hooked us up with some luxe gear to review, including the drool-worthy Xplory, that Bubba will be helping me test-drive and debut on the blog later this week so stay tuned…

Have a glamorous week!

  1. Similar to yourself, my biggest “worry” at the end was Chase’s adjustment. It was definitely hard for him to accept, and understand – particularly when he would see the closeness of me and Bryce nursing, and when I’d have to go to the baby first if he’d start crying, etc. What really, really helped was that Derek started taking Chase out on his own for lots of “one-on-one” time…. to the park, to Grandpa’s house, on errands, barber shop, etc. He felt really special, and that way he wasnt home underfoot and accidentally touching the baby too roughly, getting scolded, etc. It also allowed me to really do the bonding/work on nursing that i needed to do with Bryce. It helped that Bryce was born in the warm weather, so that Chase and D could do a lot more outdoor stuff. After a few months, when Bryce was a little older, we started re-joining them for many of those things. I also started giving Chase his own private one-on-one “date” time with me, without the baby, so that he would also feel special and remember how important he is to me.

You look fab and good luck!! So excited!

  8. The last little stretch always seems so long, I hope you get to meet your new baby soon! And I’m sure your son will do better than you think. Involving my 2 yr old really seemed to help – he passes me burp cloths and diapers, and now loves to stack lots of soft toys on top of the baby. The hardest part for me was being tired and still having to be “on” for a toddler – but that’s what caffeine is for!

  10. Good luck during your last few weeks. Sounds like you have your priorities straight and your blog will survive even if you don’t write all the time. You have to do what’s best for you and your family. And Big Brother may be jealous for a few months, but if my friends kids are any indicators, he’ll soon learn to love “his” new baby!

  11. My advice is to get Bubba involved as much as possible and wear the baby at home. This way you’ll have a hand or two free and you can still interact.
Have Bubba pick the diapers, clothes and give him jobs. See if you and your DH can take him out without the baby. He’s still going to be jealous, but this is his baby and he will come to love him.
When I was pregnant with #2, my oldest (Ben) got so jealous when our friends came over with their newborn that he hit me and told me that the baby had to go. But when his little sis was born, she was “his”. He “Bought” balloons for her (he was 2 years and 3 months, but was extremely verbal).
It also helps that she still idolizes him at 4 1/2. You may have a few bumps in the road, but he will be fine. Your new babe will think that Bubba hung the moon!

  12. well hello gorgeous – now let’s see that baby!

  13. Oh, I do not envy you. Hope it is not super hot where you are. So when you say full term are you 37 weeks or 40 weeks? My cousin is in the same boat so the whole family is on high alert.
The first few months will be tough. My kids are 20 weeks apart and I remember those horrible nights of trying to sooth and breastfeed my baby while my son pooped all over the hallway floor during potty training! But then you will look back and laugh at the memories.
Hope it all goes very smooth for you.

Love the photo shoot with that wall as the background! :)

  18. you look sooo great! my advice (given to me by someone else) is have the baby give bubba a gift. you’d think he’d be smart enough to realize the baby can’t do that, but mine didn’t. that american girl kept my two-year-old overlooking any trangressions of the baby for a long time… “well, i forgive her, ’cause she got me the dollie i always wanted!” xo
