I just downloaded the complimentary iPhone app, Swirl, a new way to shop for fashion and accessories at all my go-to retail stores.
Swirl’s mission is to bring back the in-store shopping experience and ensure its users get the best price on the items they’re lusting after.
It’s like having a personal assistant at your side whenever you go shopping to keep track of styles and offers from all of your favorite brands, then locate them when you’re out and about.
While most of us know what we like, we obviously don’t have the time to pop into every store in the hopes that we’ll find it, especially if it’s on sale. Swirl hopes to be the single resource for an efficient shopping trip.
My experience with the app so far has been very positive, although I haven’t been in the stores yet. I’m merely “clipping” my fall post-postpartum wish-list and keeping an eye on the deals at my favorite stores:
Here are some of Swirl’s features that I like best and think you’ll dig too:
- Offers: You can browse and catalog exclusive in-store/online deals from 200+ brands and retailers, from Anthropologie to Zara, and all your faves in between. I picked a handful of my favorite stores and can now easily monitor when they’re having a sale.
- Clip Collections: Whenever you’re perusing an online store, you can “clip” the products you love and organize them into different Collections – i.e. “Pretty Party Dresses” or “Vintage Inspired.” Think Pinterest but with a means to an end.
- Sale Alerts: You’ll be notified when the price of a clipped item drops. Um, AWESOME! By far my favorite feature.
- Shop Nearby: This is what sets Swirl apart. Based on your current location, the app can show you:
- A list of stores nearby
- Any current offers at those stores
- Any personal “clips” from brands carried at those stores
- Directions and a phone number to check if your item is in stock and in your size
There’s a “social” component to the app too whereby you can follow other users, which I’m not into yet but I can see it being practical and fun once the app has more users, particularly fashion bloggers. And while I understand the app wants to bring the in-store experience back, I would like if it also linked directly to the online store for those of us who NEED IT NOW!

I think the Shop Nearby feature and Sale Alerts would be awesome. Plenty of times I pass on even going into a store at the mall unless there’s a great sale going on. I like that Swirl will tell me which stores are having a sale I need to check out.
