For the Home | Baking Soda Cleaning Tips

Baking Soda by the Sink for Everyday UseMy baking soda beauty tips post is one of the most popular ever, which is no surprise since a 1 lb. box of ARM & HAMMER® costs a mere $1 and is free of harsh additives.

With back-to-school and a new baby, I’m finding even more every day uses for baking soda:

Freshen Up Your Stilettos
It’s a cinch to maintain your shoes or freshen up an old pair, as well as keeping odors from spreading, by sprinkling a little baking soda into your shoes when they’re not in use.  Shake out before wearing. For some fun with the kids, make a “Sneaker Peeker” odor fighter.  Just fill a sock with one cup of baking soda and secure with a rubber band.  Cut excess material and decorate.  Put them in sneakers overnight for fresh shoes in the morning.

Brighten Clothes
Adding one cup of baking soda to a load of laundry gives detergent a boost and keeps clothes looking bright and fresh.

Clean Plastic Storage Containers
Lunchboxes and food storage containers can get stinky after long day of school/work.  Sprinkle baking soda on a clean damp sponge, scrub, and rinse.  For tougher odors, soak containers in a solution of four tablespoons of baking soda in one quart of warm water.

Wash Fruits and Vegetables
Baking soda is a safe way to clean dirt and residue off fruits and veggies.  Sprinkle on a clean damp sponge, scrub, and rinse.  For soft skinned produce, add baking soda to a bowl of water, add produce, agitate, and rinse.  I keep a baking soda shaker at our sink for everyday use.

{I was not compensated for this post.  I received some ARM & HAMMER® products for review purposes.}
