The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection 2013 Fashion Show

Red Dress Collection 2013 Group

New York Fashion Week is underway with The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show kicking things off last night at Hammerstein Ballroom.

Despite the crazy hoopla surrounding celebrity events, the Red Dress Collection is one of my favorite shows each winter because of how personal it is for everyone and how much pizzazz and entertainment the celebs bring to the catwalk.  Say what you want about the personalities and corporate sponsors but events like the Red Dress Collection unite women and serve as a necessary reminder to take heart disease seriously.

We all have our stories and this year the campaign is urging women to share theirs:

  1. Ask your doctor about your heart disease risk factors: high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, being overweight or obese, and physically active.
  2. Set a goal and start with the basics: eat right, get regular physical activity, maintain a healthy weight, and don’t smoke.
  3. Chart your progress and celebrate successes.
  4. Share your story with friends and family and inspire their journey to heart health.
  5. Share your story with others on The Heart Truth’s Facebook page or on Twitter using the #HeartTruth hashtag.

The celebrities modeling red dresses all from American designers included: Brenda Strong in Marc Bouwer, Gabby Douglas in Pamella Roland, Jamie Chung in David Meister, Jillian Michaels in Cushnie et Ochs, Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen, Kendall Jenner in Badgley Mischka, Kris Jenner in Badgley Mischka, Kylie Jenner in Badgley Mischka, Minka Kelly in Oscar de la Renta, Nastia Liukin in Reem Acra, Roselyn Sánchez in Tadashi Shoji, Savannah Guthrie in Carolina Herrera, Soledad O’Brien in Black Halo Eve, Toni Braxton Herve L. Leroux, Torah Bright in Nicole Miller, Wendy Williams in Kamali Kulture, and the first ever non-celeb to strut, a 55-year old Connecticut native, Cindy Parsons in Adrianna Papell, who has been working to improve her health and inspire others.

I didn’t cover the red carpet this year but you can check out my runway photos on Facebook.  Here’s the finale:
