Last night I had the pleasure of attending the launch of beautybooked.com, held at the Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa on the fourth floor of The Plaza Hotel. It was amidst these lush, relaxing surroundings that I learned about this fabulous new website, and here is what you need to know about it too.

Beautybooked.com, the brain child of two former coworkers at L'Oreal, was thought up when both women had to attend a short-notice meeting with senior management after having worked tirelessly on a project. In the weeks prior, they had been working so hard that they had not had time to keep up with their regularly scheduled beauty maintenance. So they set about scheduling last minute appointments. This proved to be difficult, as they had to look up salons, call them, be placed on hold, call the next salon for the next appointment, etc. Thus the idea behind beautybooked.com was born.

Beautybooked.com answers one of (my?) life's more perplexing questions. Why can we order our meals, schedule our doctors appointments, and run our lives online, but still have to make appointments for blow outs, manicures, and waxes the old-fashioned way? I, for one, feel slightly mortified every month when I call the salon to schedule an appointment for a bikini wax, and always go to great lengths to make sure I am not overheard. I don't know about all of you but I am really excited at the prospect of not having to whisper to the poor receptionist that what I need is a bikini wax during lunch, lest any of my co-workers be treated to the knowledge of my very personal grooming habits.

Beautybooked.com has solved this problem! The site has a database of over 200 NYC salons and spas (and counting!) that you can schedule appointments for directly through the site. Live outside of New York City? No problem. The site will be expanding to more cities over the next couple of months. I spoke with Hillary Hutcheson, one of the brains behind this fantastic concept and she told me that the salons are all carefully vetted, so for those of you who are are brave enough to try something new, you know you will be in good hands.
