Am I the only one who has Kardashian lash envy? I doubt it. That's why I jumped at the chance to try out eyelash extensions at Lash House Beauty Boutique shortly after it opened a new Manhattan location (the original is in Livingston, New Jersey).

I have to admit I was a little nervous going in. I've heard all the warnings about how lash extensions can pull out your real eyelashes or that they will look fake and far too dramatic for everyday wear. I explained all of my concerns to Suzette, owner and master lash artist, and told her that while I absolutely love the idea of having long thick lashes, I didn't want something that looked unprofessional or out of place in my day to day life. Fortunately, she understood exactly what I needed!

First, she showed me all of the lashes in the lash kit that she uses and explained that various lengths and curls are mixed to achieve a natural but striking look. I then laid down and about two and a half totally pain free hours later, got up to look in the mirror. I wasn't just pleasantly surprised, I was in love. My lashes looked incredible. They were undeniably longer but didn't look fake, they just looked beautiful.

Another one of my concerns was whether my natural eyelashes would fall out or if the new ones would feel heavy on my eyes. After two weeks, they were still going strong. My lashes did not fall out at any faster rate than they normally do, it was just noticeable because the new lashes were so dark and thick.

Lash House recommends touch up services every 3 to 4 weeks and while I didn't get one, my lashes lasted past the 4-week mark.

Also noteworthy, I did not need to use mascara, or any eye makeup really, as the lashes in and of themselves were so striking. Except for a few comments on how great I looked and questions if I had done anything different, no one in my office really noticed any change (which, really, isn't that what we are all going for?)

Longer, thicker lashes provided me with a little special something and a lot of extra time saved in the morning. Not having to use any mascara or eye makeup really is a huge time saver! I can't think of a better way to navigate the holiday season beauty-wise than not having to worry about runny mascara or smeared eye makeup and knowing that no matter how tired you are, your eyes will look stunning.

I would definitely return to Lash House for more lash treatments. If you aren't interested in extensions, they also offer lash tinting which provides a slightly less dramatic alternative but also eliminates the need for mascara.
