This season's back-to-school fashion trends for boys and girls, plus a $200 Target Gift Card Giveaway!

Last month we headed to Target to shop for this season's hottest back-to-school trends and must-have products. With my big boy starting kindergarten this week and the little guy beginning nursery school the following week, we made one more run to check out the latest back-to-school fashion trends.

But first, an Icee:

Then we got down to it:

Kids Back to School Shopping Target

Here's what's on trend for boys and girls this back-to-school season:

For boys:we're seeing a lot of varsity sport influence: collegiate graphics, sporty knit tops with football details, pull over sweatshirts, and knit joggers. "Factory Made" is also popular this season like denim looks, woven shirting, industrial-inspired graphics, and knit bomber jackets.

For girls, Neo-traditional like preppy kitsch, collegiate colors, classic plaids and stripes, pins and patches are everywhere. Also, vintage romance: Victorian romance, rich tones, cosmetic pastels, painterly florals, feminine fabrics, and lace. I love the girlie girl stuff!

Target’s exclusive apparel brands for kids like Cherokee offer clean and crisp outfits, made for everyday at school or formal kids’ functions plus graphic tees and active bottoms. Circo has casual and active items, ideal for after-school activities and field trips or weekend wear and play dates, while C9 by Champion provides an assortment of affordable and stylish activewear, made for any school or after school activity including graphic tees, bright colors and prints in a variety of styles including jackets, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts, leggings, and pants.

You can also expect new apparel brands this year like S Sport for Sketchers.

Did you know Target also has clothing in a wide variety of uniform basics for schools with dress codes?

  • Polos in a multitude of colors and sleeve lengths for both genders
  • Pants and shorts for both genders
  • Variety of scooters, jumpers, dresses, cardigans and woven tops for girls
  • Shirting and layering options for boys

There were definitely a lot of oohs and aahs and no shortage of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle apparel (even socks and underwear), which make for a very happy 5-year old. I haven't dressed Sebastian in years so what he says goes. Other than special occasions when maybe I'll put my foot down, he selects his own clothes and gets dressed all on his own. I'm sure we get more than a few looks but I take fostering independence as my job. The fact that Target carries clothes he likes and that I approve of is a major plus! I love the quality jeans options and have a soft spot for the funky Shaun White stuff. LOVE me some Shaun White!
