Before I had the twins I had grand plans of elaborate scrapbooks for each child where I would lovingly describe each milestone, each new adventure, and every new word babbled. Fast forward to the furious first year of caring for twins and I hardly had time to jot down these notes in my iPhone, let alone create beautiful keepsakes to present to each child when they left the nest. The one thing I have been on top of is capturing these fleeting years with annual professional photography sessions.

I love how you can incorporate elements of your everyday life into a professional shoot as the photographers most often come to you or meet you at a favorite family hangout. The surroundings of each session I’ve organized over the years have become just as important in the visual that tells our family story as the tiny smiles and silly faces themselves. Our newborn photos were taken at home in the nursery and our bedroom which is where we spent most of our time, the first year we headed to the beach and a favorite family hiking trail and this year we took to Central Park which luckily, has become our new backyard.

The fabulous Genine Esposito was our photographer of choice and I can’t say enough about how lovely it was to work with her. We met her and her equally lovely business partner, Dena at the main gates to Central Park and my kids were instantly smitten with them. The duo whipped out their bubble wands and started the littles giggling, ushering us into the park and snapping photos along the way like professional pied pipers.

Genine, a native New Yorker and former talent agent is used to working with big personalities and capturing the essence of what makes a person tick in just an individual shot so working with kids with their own agendas doesn’t even make her blink. You want to stop in the middle of the shoot and eat a popsicle? No problem. You want to stop to play on the swings? Let’s go! Nothing phased Genine and some of these things that got us sidetracked ended up resulting in some of my favorite photos from the day.

Additionally, while Genine was quickly snapping away, Dena was right there along-side her with another camera shooting video. I’ve never had video incorporated into a photo session before and it is simply brilliant. Seeing the way my twins interact with each other and those moments between the smiles are what made this session truly unique and special.

Lastly, since my hubby was at work when we did the session and I was wrangling the kids solo, I had a lovely stylist from beGlammed help get me photo ready. It’s so nice to be treated like a celeb for a morning with my very own glam session before the kids even woke up! The stylist arrived promptly at 6:30 am as my coffee was brewing and she had my hair and makeup finished in an hour. She was professional and lovely to chat with and I was happy with the natural look I asked for. I have to admit, I could get used to this little luxury!
