Now that my twins are almost five, it’s time to overhaul their toy collection. I’ve been on the lookout for toys that are both educational and fun, yet also capture their imaginations. I’ve always loved Playmobil and my husband apparently has an extensive collection in storage, which is a wonderful endorsement for its durability and ability to stand the test of time.
I couldn’t have been happier when Playmobil sent my son the Playmobil Fire Station and my daughter, the Modern Luxury Mansion. We took advantage of a sick day with my son and spent the afternoon building the Fire Station together. He loves to build with any construction toy so this was totally up his alley. The instructions are easy to follow and he was able to organize the pieces and get things ready for assembly but the actual construction took a little more strength from adult hands. The sets come packaged with a tool to help snap the little adjoining pieces into place but word of warning for the mamas (and Dad’s) out there, building two large sets consecutively left my hands in pretty rough shape so space out the construction if you plan on building more than one at a time.
Both the Fire Station and Modern Luxury Mansion have working alarms which the littles love and have inspired so much creative play between them I was frankly surprised by just how much each of them love their new abodes. Right now we’ve repurposed our train table and created a little town where all sorts of visitors from stuffed bunnies and toy cars have come to play. And of course, we’ve picked out new pieces to add on to our existing sets (hello Swimming Pool with Terrace!) that would be perfect little gifts for small holidays like Easter.
We’ve also made a list of gifts that we’d like to give our friends for the many birthday parties we have coming up as the selection is phenomenal and the price points are spot on for gift-giving. Additionally, we’ve discovered a line of smaller sets that come with their own carrying case which are perfect for our upcoming Spring Break trip out West.
The best discovery with our new toys however, is the hours of free time that I’ve been gifted as my littles slip into character and make up adventures with everything from the tiny people to the itty bitty flowers that came with their sets. They’ve even incorporated our cat into their play so this truly is a full family affair.
