I had come across the new food delivery service, Munchery a few times on social media and I wasn’t quite sure what all the fuss was about. In a city with seemingly endless ways to enjoy great food, I have to admit I was skeptical: chef-cooked meals delivered to your door? Isn’t that what thousands of restaurants in New York City already do?

Our family has participated in meal delivery services off and on for a while, but we found that although the recipes were often delicious, the prep time was laborious and my kids weren’t always fans of the sophisticated flavors. We’d end up preparing a second meal just for them (something I never thought I would do) and meal-time became a big production when it should have been a welcome wind-down to our busy days.

Enter Munchery. It’s different than ordering from a restaurant because they partner with a variety of top-tier chefs to create exciting menus using fresh, seasonal ingredients that are sourced from local, organic sources as much as possible. The meals are fully cooked and served in microwavable containers and ready to eat in under 10 minutes so you won’t be dealing with a soggy bun or warm salad that has been wilting under a chicken breast when out for delivery. The offerings include main dishes, sides, salads, desserts and drinks and there are even special meals for the kids (yay!). The menus change daily so you’ll always have new options to choose from and everything is extremely affordable. From as little as $2.95 for a side or dessert to $15.95 for a main course like sushi or smoked beef brisket. Our kids loved the pesto chicken pasta the berry medley with a side of fresh whipped cream; and my hubby and I loved the spiced creole shrimp and chocolate fondant cake. Also, there is no monthly subscription or annual fee and bottom line, the food is delicious.

I loved that we could order exactly the amount of food that we needed and could scale up or down if we were having friends over or hosting a playdate for the kids. Ordering is easy via their website or app and is currently available in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle, with plans to launch in Los Angeles later this year.

And as an added bonus, for every meal ordered, Munchery will donate a meal to a local food bank. How great is that? I can see Munchery in regular rotation in our household.
