Six essentials for an award-winning Academy Awards viewing party.

Getting out to the theater to take in the latest and greatest flicks isn't easy for parents with small children but I find myself interested in the Academy Awards every February nevertheless. Forget that I only saw one adult movie in theaters this entire year (Lion, two thumbs up), the glitz and glamour of awards season is irresistible to me.

I also love an excuse to host a party and turn an ordinary evening into something special. Whether you're having an adult-only, black-tie viewing party or just making Sunday night special for your tween while sipping champagne in your pajamas, we have six elements not to be overlooked for an award-winning evening:

Oscar Viewing Party Invitations

Paper or Paperless, there's an abundance of glamorous options:

I'm partial to an electronic Paperless Post invite or Etsy printable for their ease and cost:

Oscar Viewing Party Decor

When it comes to party decor, the sky is the limit! There are so many creative ways to piggy-back off the Hollywood/Oscar theme and you don't have to spend a lot of money to do it. Keep the color palette a simple black, gold, and red and you're golden! Here are some eye-catching ideas:

Balloons get a bad rap but when they're done right, they look spectacular and are a super inexpensive way to make a festive statement:

As does garland that you can purchase or make yourself:

You can roll out an actual red carpet, or personalize these FREE printable Walk of Fame Stars for your guests:

You can glitter or spray paint just about anything gold for a more glam look...

...like these styromfoam balls made out of toothpicks! I love them for little tabletop centerpieces:

Inexpensive plastic or paper party store tops hats can double as decor and popcorn buckets:

And of course, you can go crazy with your tablewear and tablescape:

Oscar Viewing Party Games

To keep your Oscar party from turning into a slumber party, plan some competitive games or give out awards of your own.

Download and print this 2017 Oscar Ballot for your guests and keep score of who predicts the most winners:

Oscars Bingo is fun for adults and kids alike:

Or you can simultaneously host your own awards:
