Visiting the Children's Museum of the Arts in New York City.

In early October, the Children's Museum of the Arts officially relocated to its new, 10,000 square foot location on Charlton Street in Hudson Square. I'd been dying to take Bubba to check it out but there was such a mad dash leading up to the holidays we didn't make it down for a visit until yesterday.

I was hesitant to go during school break, having learned my lesson at the Museum of Natural History, around Easter I think it was, but we arrived at 10:45 for the WEE Arts drop-in class ($22) designed for children under 5 and it was comfortably crowded. The bi-level classroom space has high ceilings and so many different tables, nooks and stations, no one area got too congested.

The staff was the most kid-friendly I think I've encountered in all of New York City. I was having heart palpitations watching paint splatter onto the walls and sand being poured all over the floor but they didn't miss a beat. It appeared as though they were having as much fun as the kids, maybe even more.

The WEE class is roughly 45 minutes of open exploration of tables topped with materials ranging from pipe cleaners and play-doh to watercolor and finger paints, with approximately 15 minutes of a sing-a-long (complete with musical instruments) and story time. After class we were able to roam the rest of the museum which boasts exhibit space, a yoga ball pit, slide, music lounge, fine arts studio, and clay bar.

Now I've been to many types of bars over the years but never a clay bar. I had to be that cheesy mom and order a Cosmo just to see if the bartender would indulge me but she only sculpted us a doggie. Anyway, you must check out the Children's Museum of the Arts for yourself. We're already planning a return visit.
