The most frequently asked questions I receive here at Glamamom are recommendations for things to do and see in New York City, particularly in our slice of the Big Apple, West Chelsea.

Leo and I have called Chelsea home for 10 years now. When it came time to settle down and buy a place, we chose the far west side because of its picturesque, tree-lined streets, residential brownstones, and diverse mix of boutique restaurants, shops, bakeries, and galleries. Not to mention the flourishing waterfront, glamorous neighbors, and of course, the High Line.

While Sixth Avenue in Chelsea proper, also known as Ladies' Mile shopping district, boasts several blocks of big-box, national retailers, West Chelsea lacks the bigger brand names in favor of more discreet, boutique storefronts. Sure we have the outlying Balenciaga and Comme des Garçons for the touristy fashion set but what I appreciate most and recommend if you're strolling the neighborhood, are the mom & pop, single-location shops with incredibly unique merchandising and gifts. Here is the best shopping in West Chelsea New York:

NEST Interiors (172 Ninth Avenue): A sophisticated home boutique owned by a husband and wife team, offering an eclectic but modern collection of home accents, artwork, furniture, lighting, vintage pieces, and gifts. We've purchased everything from lamps to photographs to statement jewelry that I've featured here on the blog.

Maison 140(140 Ninth Avenue): A "bazaar" of whimsy French products from table linens and elegant cutlery, to candles and soap, expertly merchandised by proprietor and creative director, Ramsey Marc. One of designer Christian Siriano's Chelsea favorites too, I pop in whenever I need a fabulous gift, card, and wrapping.

STORY(144 Tenth Avenue): Located along Tenth Avenue and visible from the High Line, STORY is a concept store that reinvents itself every 4-6 weeks changing out all of its merchandise, design, and fixtures to tell a story from its particular point of view. You'll find everything from fashion jewelry from brands like Bauble Bar to beauty samples from the likes of BirchBox, to pet gear and children's gifts.

My Little Sunshine (177 Ninth Avenue): This adorable children's boutique carries clothing, accessories, toys and gifts from brands like aden + anias, Oeuf, Jellycat, Melissa & Doug, Splendid, Imps & Elfs, Bear Feet, and Trumpet and is our go-to for kids' birthday gifts. They also offer great haircuts from a very patient stylist on select days.

Chelsea Market (75 Ninth Avenue): The list wouldn't be complete without a nod to Chelsea Market, the urban food court, shopping mall, office building and television production facility located at the south end of West Chelsea just before the cobblestone street border of the Meatpacking District. While most notable for its eats, I enter the less conspicuous Tenth Avenue side for easy access to Posman Books (fabulous children's section) and Chelsea Market Baskets (artisan foods, teas, chocolates, and other gifts). There are also regular sample sales in the large event space next to Hale & Hearty.

If you work up an appetite shopping and strolling the High Line, stop into La Bergamote or the new Sullivan St Bakery for a treat. For specific brunch/lunch/dinner recs, email or Tweet me. There are far too many options to list!
