Here again I find myself hosting #MondayMingle after another terrible tragedy.  I hope you find some joy and distraction from this week’s posts.

I’ve remarked before how limiting I find dressing while nursing.  Especially as it’s getting colder and I need more layers/heavier tops to keep warm.  I’m thrilled to discover Seraphine Maternity’s line of nursing tops and sweaters.  All of the pieces provide easy access in a discreet but fashionable way.

I’m wearing the Indigo Striped Nursing Sweater that has snap fastenings on both sides that are easy to pull open to nurse.  The design is roomy and slouchy and covers my hips and butt so I can wear it with leggings for comfy days like yesterday when we just bummed around and decorated our Christmas tree.  But it’s certainly cute enough to dress up as well.  Leo took a bunch of pics of us nursing and they’re so beautiful but I think it’s enough that I post beauty and fashion shots of myself here!  You’ll just have to trust me that’s it a perfectly functional garment as well, wink.

One #MondayMingle participant this week will win R.J. Graziano for HSN’s “Go Glam” Set of 10 Crystal-Accented Bangle Bracelets:

Mode Monday | The Pregnancy Project

Jill Seiman, The Pregnancy Project Launch, NYC

[dress: myne / booties: dv by dolce vita / bag: prada (similar) / watch: michael kors / carrier: moby wrap]

While my pregnancy project has come to fruition, Luke and I joined Tracy Anderson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Christy Turlington Burns, and Molly Sims on Friday to celebrate the launch of Ms. Anderson’s new DVD series, The Pregnancy Project to benefit Every Mother Counts.

It was a swanky affair atop The Standard hotel filled with positive vibes and support for Anderson in her quest to guide expectant parents through their pregnancy journey with sound fitness and nutrition advice.  She looked gorgeous in Victoria Beckham, it’s hard to believe she just had daughter Penelope this summer.  I have to get her DVDs now that I’m ready to start working out again.  I’ve heard such positive things.  Have you ever tried them?

Tracy Anderson’s ‘The Pregnancy Project’ | NYC Launch Event Benefiting Every Mother Counts 10/5

Tracy Anderson's 'The Pregnancy Project' Benefiting Every Mother Counts

Tracy Anderson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Christy Turlington Burns are hosting a launch party this Friday at The Standard to celebrate Tracy’s newest DVD series, The Pregnancy Project.  Net proceeds from the event, as well as a portion of sales from the DVD, benefit Every Mother Counts.

The Pregnancy Project is designed to be a guide for expectant parents and covers everything from nutrition, to fitness, to the leading studies on pregnancy.  Similar to Tracy’s successful Metamorphosis DVDs, the series contains more than just the workouts.  It provides nine different workouts, one focused on each month of pregnancy, which Tracy filmed in real time during her pregnancy with her new baby Penelope.  It also contains interviews with doctors, mothers, Tracy’s clients, and various experts on pregnancy.

Founded by Christy Turlington Burns in 2010, Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction globally.

Hundreds of thousands of girls and women around the world die every year from complications in pregnancy or childbirth, of which experts believe 90% are preventable.

Every Mother Counts is committed to:

  • Raising awareness and mobilizing action on maternal health among the America public
  • Mobilizing financial resources for maternal health & directing 100% of funds raised to effective programs
  • Encouraging policymakers to demonstrate leadership on maternal health care

Hope you’ll join me on Friday for this star-studded event and very worthy cause.

Isabella Oliver Style Panel

I’m joining stylish mamas Kristin of BonBon Rose Girls and Andrea Howe of For the Love of… on the Style Panel of Isabella Oliver with my best pregnancy and maternity wear advice.  Check it out!

I almost miss being pregnant the clothes are so pretty but I’ve now got my eye on the nursing tops.  There’s a serious lack of postpartum options for nursing moms.

Rebecca Minkoff for Bravado Designs | Limited Edition Essential Nursing Tanks to Benefit Baby Buggy

This morning I joined friends at Alison Eighteen for a reception hosted by Julia Beck and the Forty Weeks team to celebrate designer and newly-minted Glamamom Rebecca Minkoff’s Limited Edition Essential Nursing Tank Collection for Bravado Designs.

Rebecca Minkoff And Bravado Designs Launch A Nursing Tank Benefiting Baby Buggy

You know how much I love these tanks.  They’re stylish, comfy, and of course, functional.  And YES, that’s BravadoMama Model Search winner, Mari Torres!

Named “Luca” and “Indy” respectively, 20% of sales from the colorblock tanks will be donated to Baby Buggy®, a non-profit organization founded by Jessica Seinfeld to provide essential equipment, products, clothing, and services for infants and children of families in need.  Bravado Designs will also donate a new bra or tank for each limited edition tank purchased.

Minkoff shared, “As a new mom myself who benefited from the support of both Bravado products and an encouraging community, I know how important it is to have the proper support and tools when nursing.  I am truly honored to be a part of this collaboration and welcome the opportunity by contributing to help new mothers on their journey.”

Happy Monday Ladies!  Hope you had a great weekend.

We’re slowly emerging from our cocoon, although I think we’re still in the honeymoon phase and I expect things to get more manic before we experience any normalcy.

My little Lucas mostly slept his first two weeks on the outside which thankfully allowed me to recuperate rather quickly.  This weekend was a completely different story but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it was an anomaly and he’ll go easy on us.

The weather in NYC has been glorious.  It’s the kind of weather everyone always talks about but we only experience a few weeks each year.  While I remember being scared to take Sebastian out when he was this age, I haven’t had much of a choice with Lucas.  Sebastian started pre-school last week and we’ve been getting outside a fair amount.  I find he sleeps better after some fresh air and I feel less cagey.  Plus, we received this gorgeous new Stokke Xplory to review.  It’s the most luxurious stroller I’ve ever laid eyes on.  Practically, I have both positive feedback and things that I think can be improved so I’ll write up a full review with specs as soon as I can but you’ll notice from the photo of my sleeping prince, he’s certainly comfy!

I’d forgotten what pain it is to dress when you have to whip out your boobs every couple of hours.  I’ve mostly been sticking to tanks and button downs for easy access.

Last pregnancy I lived in leggings but when I met with Style for Hire at the Westfield Style Lounge at Garden State Plaza and asked about postpartum fashion, they poo-pooed leggings and stretch pants in favor of jeans and dresses because their lack of structure doesn’t allow you to feel when you’re over-eating or gaining weight, which I think is a great point that I’ll try to keep in mind this time around.

Any postpartum fashion tips you’d like to share?

Have a glamorous week!

Meet Lucas

I am overjoyed to announce that our second son, Lucas Alexander, was born on a perfectly clear, sunny morning last week weighing 7lb 12oz and measuring 20.5 inches. He’s a peanut compared to his big brother but won’t remain that way for very long if his voracious appetite is any indication.

We’re all feeling well and getting to know one another. I’ve spent hours staring at his tiny face searching for similarities and wondering who he is and who he’ll be. The newborn stuff came back to me fast and I’m surprised how much easier it all feels this second time around.

Lucas’ birth story isn’t without drama and deserves its own post so for now I’ll leave you with some shots taken over the past few days.

I can’t thank everyone enough for the love and encouragement and wish you all the best these last few weeks of summer…Jill

Mode Monday | Now *THIS* is a Diaper Bag {Sponsored}

Prada Vitello Daino Bluette Tote

Back in July, I was eying this Prada Vitello Daino Hobo as I compiled my favorite red, white & blue inspirations for Fourth of July.  Its buttery-soft leather and cool blue hue had me day dreaming of strolling the avenues with it fashionably tucked under my arm.

Fast forward a month or so and I started getting serious about a diaper bag purchase. Traditional diapers bags are certainly practical, with all their pockets and pouches, but even the more stylish always felt so dowdy to me.

First time around, I opted for a bunch of LeSportsac variations in cutesy prints as I considered a diaper bag to be more of an accessory for the baby than for me. But one afternoon shopping on Bleecker about a year ago, I spied the most gorgeous leather diaper bag in the window of Little Marc Jacobs, which made me believe I could actually carry one and still be me.

Of course that bag has since been discontinued but I figured I could always try and track one down.

My first course of action was to search eBay, one of my go-to resources for accessories, particularly anything sold out or discontinued. Remember the yellow bubble necklace I wore a few weeks ago? eBay all the way!

I wasn’t able to locate the diaper bag I’d seen sometime ago BUT while searching for totes with side pockets I found THIS beauty staring back at me:

Prada Vitello Daino Bluette Tote

The same collection and color as the hobo in a big, roomy tote, with side pockets to boot!  It’s sold out in stores but was still priced at a major discount to retail.

I had to have it. Especially after noticing the new stretch marks on my under belly.

Have you ever scored a particularly exciting fashion item on eBay?

From the new to the hard to find, when it’s on your mind, it’s on eBay.

Maya Brenner Designs Letter Collection

[vest & tank: c/o old navy / jeans: a pea in the pod / sandals: c/o lauren ralph lauren /sunnies: chanel / watch: michael kors / necklaces: dannijo, asymmetrical mini letter necklace c/o maya brenner designs]

Okay so there’s not much “mode” to celebrate lately.  At this point, I’m wearing whatever fits.  I’m currently bigger than I was when I gave birth to Sebastian, which is no small feat, and have very few options left in my closet.  Since I only-probably-hopefully have a couple more weeks, I’m trying to avoid buying anything else and just living in whatever stretches.

Maya Brenner sent me this mini “J” necklace that I’m absolutely in love with.  It’s simple and delicate, great for layering.  You can add letters too, making it the chicest little push present for mamas who like the idea of wearing something inspired by their children but don’t want the traditional birthstone, “mommy jewelry.”  You can put me in that category for sure.

The weather in NYC was glorious this weekend in comparison to the rest of the summer.  My idea of glorious that is.  Today, it was downright breezy and not overly sunny, perfect for strolling and dining outdoors.

We learned early on that picnics in the park are the way to go with our rambunctious little one and fortunately have great take-out options in our ‘hood as well as parks and waterfront.  There’s nothing like a New York City bagel, especially when you’re eating for two!   We hit up a local fave this morning and relaxed at the playground.  No spills, no clanging silverware, no dirty looks.  A fine way to start the week.

If you’re linking up with #MondayMingle, welcome!  One participant this week will win the Skinny by Jessica Elliot Resin Lifesaver Bangle in purple.  UPDATE: The winner is #33, Shopfreak.
