Blogger of the Day at Anderson Live

Jill Seiman & Anderson Cooper, Blogger of the Day, Anderson Live

This morning I had the distinct honor and pleasure of being “Blogger of the Day” at Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, Anderson Live. During my tenure, I sat in the audience and live Tweeted my thoughts and reactions to noteworthy news and guest interviews as moderated by Cooper and today’s co-host Kyra Phillip’s of HLN’s “Raising America.” I’m a big fan of both Cooper and Phillips and respect their candid journalism and humor so it was fun to watch them as a team.

If you didn’t get a chance to follow along on Twitter (#AndersonLive) or see today’s broadcast, the “First 15″ was dedicated to breaking news including: the acquittal of Amanda Knox being overturned (Cooper asked the audience, “Would you go back to Italy if you were Amanda Knox?”), the monumental decision facing the Supreme Court in its consideration of gay rights, the 44-year old deli owner who won q $338 million Powerball Jackpot (“Do you think winning that kind of money would change you?”), and Dillie a domesticated pet deer that has given a woman receiving chemotherapy treatment joy and comfort.

The show’s in-studio guests included two women from TLC’s “My Crazy Obsession” and a doctor that warns collecting is healthy until it negatively impacts your relationships or financial status.

Fashion expert Jill Martin rounded out the morning with 3 fixes for common fashion problems:
1. Not enough color in your wardrobe? Use scarves and accessories to incorporate seasonal trends.
2. Too many clothes in your closet that you’re not wearing? Invite over an honest friend and donate SEVENTY-FIVE percent of closet.  Apply the 6-month rule and get rid of anything you don’t have immediate plans to wear.
3. White tee shirts making you look washed out? Add a colorful statement necklace and be sure to replace tees every few months for that crisp whiteness.

AC3

Funny enough, the studio is the same that Nate Berkus used to film in, which brought back some hilarious memories.

The crew was absolutely lovely and Cooper could not have been a more gracious host. During commercial breaks he walked around the audience answering questions and taking photos. After the taping concluded I got to join him in a photo booth for the above photo to memorialize the occasion.

Huge thanks to Myescha and Harrison for the glamorous start to the week and for taking such good care of me! I’ve had a few talk show experiences at this point and this was by far my favorite.

Olympic Beauty | Pantene’s Win a Day with Natalie Contest {& Daily Moisture Renewal Giveaway}

PANTENE's Win a Day with Natalie Coughlin Contest

Are you as pumped for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games tonight as I am?

I watched the trials, learned many the athletes’ backstories, and feel sufficiently invested in Team USA!

One of the most compelling, is that of Natalie Coughlin, the 29-year old, 11-time Olympic medalist for USA Swimming (3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 4 Bronze).  She’s competing in the 4×100 relay tomorrow, her only event in the Games, and if her team medals, she’ll tie Jenny Thompson and Dara Torres as America’s most decorated female Olympian of all time!

Pantene is sponsoring Coughlin in the Games and recently launched a Win A Day With Natalie Contest where one lucky swim team will get to swim and learn tips and tricks from the Olympic swimmer all day!  You can enter here (if you’re under the age of 13, be sure to ask your parents or guardian to enter).  Such a great fit since Coughlin is as much a beauty icon as she is a health icon.  Just look at that hair!

When I learned Coughlin maintains her gorgeous locks with Pantene’s Daily Moisture Renewal, I couldn’t wait to try it.  Given the amount of time she spends in damaging chlorinated water, it’s especially impressive.

Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal is a unique collection of shampoos, conditioners, stylers, and treatments designed for daily use to help repair dry, damaged hair.  Each product in the Daily Moisture Renewal collection contains a proprietary Pro-Vitamin formula that helps to control hair’s moisture levels and prevent damage for a soft, smooth, moisturized feel.

My issue is blow-drying.  I definitely notice an immediate difference when I use the Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner.  They’re designed for all hair types but have a thicker, creamier formula which coats the hair well, moisturizes, and detangles.  I have thick, wavy hair, so this formula works particularly well for me when dryness is an issue.

Pantene Moisture RenewalWIN IT!  Even if you or your kids aren’t part of a swim team, Pantene wants to add a little glamour to your Olympic Games experience and is giving 25 Glamamom readers the Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner!

TO ENTER:  You must follow Glamamom at least one of the following ways: confirmed email subscription, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram.  Just leave a comment below with your own “Gold Medal Moment” (i.e. graduation, a big promotion, best friend’s wedding day, birth of a child, etc.).

One entry per person.  Winners must be 18 years old and US residents.  I’ll randomly choose the 25 winners in a week.

Enjoy the Games!

UPDATE: The winners are: Allisha, Missa, Monica, Pamela Halligan, 1955nurse, Terri P, Amy Orvin, Bicultural Mama, Terri, Julie P, Charity L, Tina Reynolds, Claire, Lana Bradstream, Amanda Hoffman, D. Schmidt, Mary Williams, Laura Ari, Dede, Emily Evert, Jennifer Clay, Autumn, Julie, Fiona N, Tammy Hoffa.  I’ll notify everyone via email as well. Congrats!

UNFORGETTABLE SET VISIT

Have you guys been watching the CBS crime drama Unforgettable?

On an unseasonably frigid morning last month, I had the chance to see Poppy Montgomery and Marilu Henner film a scene together on the waterfront set in Long Island City.

The series stars Poppy Montgomery as Carrie Wells, a former police detective who has hyperthymesia, a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to remember everything. It’s not just that she doesn’t forget anything – she can’t forget anything, except for one thing: details from the day her sister was murdered years ago.  Since then, Carrie has tried to put her past behind her, but she’s unexpectedly reunited with her ex-boyfriend and partner, NYPD Detective Al Burns (Dylan Walsh), when she consults on a homicide case.  Despite her conflicted feelings for Al, she decides to permanently join his unit as a detective solving homicides – most notably, the unsolved murder of her sister.  All she needs to do is remember.

Marilu Henner plays Carrie’s estranged Aunt Edie, with memory issues of her own.  Henner actually has the gift of hyperthymesia in real life!  There is nothing she doesn’t remember.

Here’s the final cut of the scene we got to see and a sneak peek at tomorrow’s episode. Montgomery and Henner are such professionals.  Can you even tell it was freezing and that they’d been standing outside all morning?

In between takes, we defrosted in their trailer and chatted with Henner and Montgomery about motherhood.  Montgomery travels back and forth from New York City to Los Angeles, where her husband and 4-year old son reside and admits she has difficulty creating a balance and often feels guilty as a working mom.  She also mentioned that she gained 65 pounds while pregnant!  A girl after my own heart.  Although, you’d never know it with how amazingly fit she is now.  Henner has 2 teenage sons and swears they’re not spoiled.  Her advice?  A guilty parent is a bad parent!

On a follow-up call, when asked about hyperthymesia and whether she considers it a gift or liability, Henner responded:

I’ve always been thrilled to have it. I consider it a total gift. You know, I’m writing a book that’ll be out in the spring and it’s called, “Total Memory Makeover, uncover your past, take charge of your future.” And it’s all about helping other people tap into their autobiographical memories. And some of the things that I’ve done over the years to really kind of refresh and preserve and, you know, things that I – different little things that I used to do with the kid and as a result, I know that a lot of, you know, a lot of my memory is a question of nature and nurture. So I’m excited to share some of these things with people in my book. But I have never ever, ever thought of it as a liability. I’ve only thought of it as this wonderful thing that I didn’t even realize other people couldn’t do. You know, it was always surprising to me that I would say, “Oh, don’t you remember the time we blah, blah, blah,” and then go into specific details. And people would say, “What? How did you remember that?” And I’d say, “Well, how could you not? We went through it,” you know. So I’ve never considered it anything but a tremendous gift and just the way it its. You know, not – never a liability.

So what do you think?  If you could chose to remember every detail of every experience you’ve ever had, would you?

{Unforgettable airs Tuesday nights on CBS. Special thanks to Selfish Mom and the One2One Network for including me in this opportunity. I was not compensated for writing this post. I received a Visa gift card to cover my travel expenses. Final photo courtesy of Mama Goes Natural.}

TOP OF THE MORNIN’

You may have noticed America’s #1 morning show, TODAY, has a new and improved website, TODAY.com.

Early last month, I joined fellow bloggers and hostesses Kathie Lee Gifford & Hoda Kotb, for breakfast at 30 Rock to celebrate its unveiling.

In addition to the fresh new design and layout, TODAY.com now offers videos from the morning’s live segments, as well as exclusive online content.

I adore these ladies and am tuned in to TODAY every morning as I start mine, so it was surreal and exciting to be sitting atop the Plaza taking part in the launch.

Kathie Lee kept us entertained of course, questioning, Is there alcohol here? upon arrival.  Clearly, we’re kindred spirits.  While it wasn’t the first thing I asked, it was certainly the first thing I thought after my early wake-up call and when I learned I’d be talking about what I do each day to feel more glamorous, on camera, for TODAYMoms.

You can watch Nicole’s (Momtrends), Mary’s (The Mommyologist), and my Glamorous Advice for Moms here.

Please share if you do something special each day that makes you feel more glamorous.

A little glamour goes a long way!

THE COINCIDENCE

At the close of 2010, I left my job of 7 years (and an 11-year career in finance) to focus full-time on social media marketing.

Building a new business has been a tremendous learning experience, a venture that requires more than just hard work and dedication.  There are always somewhat uncontrollable variables to success like knowing the “right people” and being in the “right place at the right time.”  And self promotion, well, believe it or not, it doesn’t come naturally to me.

There’s also a lot of unpaid work and sharing of ideas in “good faith” to build rapport.  Sure I may be forgoing an immediate paycheck, but I’m building my resume, a valuable benefit.

Last month, I wrote a little about a media campaign, #iheartlpc, that I conceived for the lingerie store La Petite Coquette.  In my attempt to further my relationship with them, as well as my own reputation as both a media consultant and lifestyle blogger, I reached out to a producer contact of mine at The Rachael Ray Show with an idea I had for a Valentine’s Day segment.

In case you’re curious about my idea, here’s our email correspondence dating back to December when I first contacted her about it:

I never heard back from her after that but I figured it was a long shot.  I mean, I’m just a lowly blogger.  Not one of those classy, aspirational mommies like say, Kris Jenner.

But I have to admit, I was more than a little surprised when I saw Rachael Ray’s Valentine’s Day segment yesterday: a mom lingerie makeover with none other than La Petite Coquette.

Don’t worry, it’s not what you think though.  When I confronted Ms. Siegel, she explained everything:

I was further reassured with a voicemail at 8:30am this morning stating, “your email never left my desk.”

After being up 2 nights in a row with a croupy baby then spending Valentine’s Day in bed with a fever of my own, I needed a good laugh.

It’s nice to know that if things don’t work out with High Line Media, I can always join the original and talented production team at The Rachael Ray Show.

Well, probably not now but you know what I mean.

GOLDEN GLOBES 2011 RED CARPET FASHIONS: OOHS & BOOS

I know you’ve been waiting with bated breath for my commentary on last night’s Golden Globes’ fashions but I’m pressed for time so here it goes…

Oohs:
In a sea of emerald green and blush pinks, it was the shimmery, sparkly brunettes that stood out for me.  Also, the cool blues. Did Amy Adams really just have a baby?!

Boos:
From the looks on their faces, they knew they were going to be on this list…

Looking forward to Fashion Police tonight.  I hope Joan Rivers is no holds barred like Ricky Gervais was last night.

Who were your oohs and boos?

MY APPEARANCE ON THE NATE BERKUS SHOW

BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE NATE BERKUS SHOW

Boy, has it been a whirlwind couple of days.  My head is still spinning.

It all started with a call from a friend asking if I would be interested in appearing in a segment on The Nate Berkus ShowWha?  Me?  Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Of course I was all over it.  My adoration for Nate is no secret.  He’s one of my neighbors and I see him in the gayborhood every so often, including at last week’s Lucky Shops event.  I’m convinced that if we spend enough time together he’ll, you know, come decorate my apartment.

There was a lot of back and forth with the producer of the segment so I wasn’t confident it would ever come to fruition.  But the stars aligned and I’m now one step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming famous for nothing.

Even Cousin Kat, who has a legit fear of public speaking, was coerced invited to take part in the show.

Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the entire experience was exiting the studio a mere hour before taping in search of a bar to help ease our nerves.  We found a Jake’s a half block away with a bartender that was more than happy to indulge us.  So there we were, throwing back cosmos, our Irish heritage getting the best of us.

The taping went smoothly (wink, wink) and Nate couldn’t be a nicer guy.  He totally remembered me (or at least pretended to) and made small talk after we wrapped.

The audience, clad in bright festive colors of purple, red, orange, and green, was radiating with excitement and energy as the handlers played music, facilitated dance contests, and engaged with trivia questions.

It was a fun, totally random, I heart New York experience.  Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take any photos in the studio so I only have pics from the green room, and hair and make-up.  There’s video from the bar but it’s private (unless you’re willing to pay for it).

What could be more welcoming than that?

Well, that's pretty welcoming too

My friend Carrie remarked that I should get my own show so that I can stop going on others’.

From her keyboard to god’s screen, right?

I don’t know when the show is airing yet but you’ll be the first to know once I find out ;)

Happy Friday!

MY APPEARANCE ON THE VIEW- DESIGNER LOOKS FOR LESS

Jill Seiman from Glamamom.com and her friends show Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck of “The View” where they learned to find designer looks for less.

Don’t forget the T.J.Maxx/Marshalls $100 gift card giveaway. Just leave a comment by June 25th.

BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE VIEW

Our “15 minutes of fame” was more like 30 seconds each but don’t let that fool you, it took an army of professionals to pull off the “Fashion Friday” segment on The View.  A huge thanks to producer Jamie Kotkin-Hammer and her team, Andrey Barrantes and Ana Canenguez, and Alison Deyette for all the their hard work and for making us feel like stars.

Here are some behind the scenes shots from the green room to rehearsals with Usher to hair and make-up.  I’ll post the segment as soon as it’s released to me.
