Clear and Brilliant Laser Review

Review of the new Clear and Brilliant fractional laser technology, plus Fall/Winter Beauty Trends.

If you've seen me in the past week or so, you may have noticed that I'm looking more rested than usual. Sure I've been sleeping more, thanks to advice from Dr. Oz, but the real credit goes to a new, non-invasive dermatological procedure called Clear + Brilliant, that coincidentally was featured on The Dr. Oz Show just last month.

Clear+ Brilliant

Clear + Brilliant uses safe, fractional laser technology to correct early signs of aging skin and help prevent it by creating millions of microscopic treatment zones in the skin and replacing damaged skin with healthy younger looking tissue. It was my first ever cosmetic therapy and I'm already hooked.

I was super nervous at first, not knowing what to expect, but Drs. Chapas and Halem assured me that the minimal, non-invasive procedure is FDA cleared, intended for women and men of all ages and skin types, and only leaves the skin flushed for a few hours.

Everything they said was 100% true for me. I spent 15 minutes with a numbing cream on, then received the treatment, which lasted only a few minutes. Dr. Halem ran the laser around my face and since I was numb, all I felt was heat and a bit of pinching. I specifically requested that the laser be on a low setting and I would say on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most painful, the pain was about a 3 or 4.

I had very little redness after the procedure, although the minor numb/tingling feeling lasted well into the evening. Clear + Brilliant is considered a "lunch-hour procedure" and most people like me are able to return to work with no one knowing the wiser.

The following day I was pleasantly surprised to see that my skin has never looked better. Sorry I don't have before and after photos. You'll just have to take my word for it, based on thousands of hours I've clocked inspecting my face.

I hadn't expected much of a result with only one treatment, especially since it was on a low setting but the results are undeniable. My pores are smaller and some broken blood vessels under my left eye are less noticeable. My make-up has been going on smoother and overall I feel really great about it and want to do it again. Since the procedure is relatively new, not every dermatologist has Clear + Brilliant yet but I think it's well worth it to find one that does and try it out for yourself. The cost depends on your dermatologist and the number of treatments you buy but will likely run you $400-$500.

Celebrity make-up artist Jacqui Phillips was on hand to re-do our make-up after the procedure and show us how to get this season's sexiest make-up trends. Here's how you can incorporate them into your look:

1. Classically Nude, Modernly Bold: Use completely nude colors all the way down to the lip. Sweep your favorite bronzer below your cheekbones to create beautiful contours in a matter of seconds.

Cat Eye, Nude Lip

2. Bold Lips: As fall transitions to winter, experiment with with rick berry shades, which flatter nearly every skin tone. They're the perfect way to complete your cool-weather look.

3. Smokey Eyes with Splashes of Bronze, Gold & Silver: The smokey eye gets a metallic makeover this season with hints of bronze, silver, and gold-based tones. By mixing shimmery shades with deeper black, brown, and navy shadows, you'll create a sexy, shimmery eye that stands out without overwhelming your entire look. Swipe a neutral color across the entire eyelid and apply a rich dark shade directly on top. With a deep-toned eyeliner, line the top inner rims and bottom of the eye. Creme liners with an angled brush are your best bet because they tend to be the easiest to manipulate. With an angled brush, trace over the liner with the rick dark shadow you previously used. Finish with two coats of mascara, or add false eyelashes for extra pop.

4. Full Eyebrows: I love a full brow so I'm happy to see that thick and natural eyebrows are IN! Trade your eye pencil this season for an angled brush and brow powder. The powder mimics hair follicles, creating a more natural, stunning look. If your brows are thinner, prep them with a wax and gently swipe brow powder over them. Tweezing stray hairs will give the brow a nice shape and open the eye dramatically.

5. Bold Blush: A rosy flush is the most the most daring accessory this season! Prep your cheeks with a a light-reflecting luminizer before applying your favorite pink blush for an irresistible glow.

6. The Messy Bun: Embrace your hair's natural texture. Apply a balm to towel-dried hair to create a dewy look that will stay gorgeous all day long. Next, blow-dry hair half-way and pull back into a loose ponytail. Twist hair into a messy bun and secure with your favorite hair accessory. To complete the look, lightly mist your hair with a non-aerosol spray to keep your bun looking perfectly tousled all day long.

7. Glittery, Crackled, Rich Dark & Nude Nail Polish: With any of these trends, you can't go wrong. I'm also partial to greens and blues this season.

8. A Drastic Side Part: To add personality to this classic look, spritz your hair with a texture spray to create voluminous beach waves.

9. Big Clumped Eye Lashes: This season, lashes are long and full with a pieced together look. Check out my review of Lancome Hypnôse Doll Lashes.

10. Winged Eyes: Use a felt tip liner (or an angled brush with a creme liner) to create an edgy, dramatic look or a more subtle, elegant appearance.

So what do you think? Would you try a laser cosmetic procedure? Which beauty trend do you plan to work into your routine?
