If you're not yet familiar with IT Cosmetics, the makeup and skin care line was developed by plastic surgeons as problem-solving makeup with cutting-edge anti-aging technologies and high-performance ingredients.
I first took notice a couple of years ago when I tried the Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer and have been a big fan ever since. As I've gotten older, the two biggest issues I face are wrinkles and an uneven skin tone (redness, freckles, acne scarring, and sun spots). I can hydrate and exfoliate all I want, at the end of the day, I need a good foundation and/or corrector to set the stage for my makeup and look my best. What I like most about IT, is that the products focus on correction but contain preventative anti-aging benefits as well.
IT's latest release is the new Confidence in a Compact, billed as the "first-ever solid serum foundation." Confidence in a Cream is one of IT's best-selling products and the new compact promises all the same benefits plus physical SPF 50 + and full-coverage pigment.
Needless to say I was intrigued to try it and thankfully a media sample arrived on my doorstep late last month with the 7 universal shades, as well as Confidence in a Cream to compare it to and the Heavenly Skin Skin-Smoothing Complexion Brush to apply the compact foundation with.
My first reaction was that the packaging is really bright and pretty. Most of my compacts are plain black so the silver and white stands out. Upon opening the compact, I could tell the formula has a creaminess to it, as opposed to a powder or liquid.
The 7 shades are named Fair, Light, Medium, Medium Tan, Tan, Rich, and Deep. My winter skin is Light and I could probably do Medium in the summer.
I'm going to be brave (or confident, rather) and show you a RAW before and after so you can get a sense of the coverage. In the "after" shot, I am only wearing the serum foundation, absolutely nothing else. I would typically follow up with a spot concealer, setting powder, bronzer, blush, etc. but I wanted to show a direct comparison:
To be honest, I rarely wear foundation and opt for a tinted moisturizer instead because I prefer a lighter feel during the day. If I'm going out at night, however, and wearing a full face of makeup, I will use foundation for a nice, even base. The Confidence in a Compact formula is definitely "heavier" than my tinted moisturizer, for lack of a better word, but it does a much better job of evening out my skin tone. You can see the redness has been reduced, as well as my freckles/sun spots. Applying it took seconds and I really like using the angled brush to blot it on. Definitely worth the investment.
Confidence in a Compact formula is thicker than the Prescriptives foundation I usually wear but it's not greasy and goes on smooth. Not bad considering it contains SPF 50+. I would have expected a cream formula with SPF to feel heavier, actually. Mine wore well throughout the day although I started to get a little oily a few hours in, which is totally typical for me. At bedtime, it took a bit more than my usual makeup remover to remove all of the foundation. You'll want to pull out your cleansing brush for this one but I think that speaks to its staying power.
For those looking for a less expensive version, I also like COVERGIRL + Olay Simply Ageless (featured as one of the best beauty products to try summer 2015). It's less SPF protection but will give you a good sense of how a medium to full coverage compact formula looks and feels.
I will definitely continue to use the Confidence in a Compact and update this post with any new thoughts. If you're looking for good coverage, a more even complexion, plus SPF and anti-aging benefits, you should give Confidence in a Compact a try.
