Carissa Leigh Photography

Last month, while Glamadad jetted off to Chicago for his 10-year college reunion at Northwestern University, Big Bub, Mapu, and I played dress up with Carissa Lang of Carissa Leigh Photography.

It's never easy inviting someone you don't know well into your home, no less to take self indulgent photos in a hot pink quinceanera dress.

But Carissa, a native Hawaiian living in NYC while her hunky huz attends law school, is the warmest and most patient photographer I could have ever hoped for. She's a Glamamom herself (to an adorable little girl named Kennedy), therefore empathetic to the challenges and limitations of working with children.

When she arrived at Chez Glamamom, Carissa slipped off her fab fringe boots, assessed her surroundings, and began subtly directing. We had met previously to discuss expectations and she requested I assemble "inspiration photos." Armed with that knowledge, Carissa thoughtfully brought props and wasn't afraid to get down and dirty, on the floor or way up high on a chair, to capture each moment. I most appreciate that she was warm and patient with Big Bub and Mapu, and impressively kept up her positive energy throughout the afternoon.

Carissa had fun too. Read her perspective on the shoot here.

I'm elated how beautiful the photos turned out, especially since I was having a particularly difficult day with Biggie. Maybe once a month he'll skip his nap altogether and sure enough, the day of the shoot he refused to go down, which meant I couldn't wash my hair and primp the way I normally would have. Sigh.

Such is the life of a Glamamom.

WIN IT: Carissa is offering a complimentary 2-hour shoot, including a disc of fully edited images, to one Glamamom reader. The shoot must take place before December 10, 2010 or after April 1, 2011 (lucky gal is heading back to Hawaii for the winter) in NYC.
