Were your kids sick most of this winter? Mine definitely were. I don’t know what it is, but my daughter had a cough she couldn’t shake! Thankfully, we were lucky enough to spend the morning with the Vicks® VapoRub™ team, and picked up some goodies that finally seem to have her lingering cough under control.
We left the house bright and early on a Saturday morning and headed for Brooklyn. The kids were excited enough to cross the Brooklyn Bridge, but when the car pulled up outside Recess in Dumbo, the indoor play space for kids, they were stoked. There are few things that I love more in life than finding a new play space for my kids to get their ya-ya’s out without being worried they’re going to be in harm's way. Un-fenced playgrounds? Shudder. Scooting at top speed along Broadway? Omg. Indoors with slides, tunnels, rope ladders and bridges to explore? Sign me up! There were plenty of kids for my Littles to run around with and the thoughtful staff made sure that everyone was playing safely and accounted for. Score.
With the kids entertained, I slipped away and hung out with some other mamas, the Vicks team, and a registered nurse who had a lot to share about germs and coughs, and how to stay healthy.
Did you know that kids get sick an average of 3.4 times a year and 67% of parents catch the same sickness their kids have? (according to SheKnows Media Survey, 2017)
Yuck. With some fun photo booth action and delicious breakfast treats to partake in, we also learned some tips to stay as healthy as possible during the dreaded cold season.
(1) Naturally, one of the most common tips is to wash your hands often, but did you know that you should wash for as long as it takes you to hum or sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, twice!? Any shorter and you’ve most likely missed some germs that can lead to illness.
(2) If you’re one of the unlucky ones that already has caught a cold and cough, Vicks® VapoRub™ is great for Littles two and older and starts to work on contact, and the vapors last for up to 8 hrs. I remember my mom using it on me when I was little and the smell instantly transports me back to my childhood bedroom and cartoon-themed sheets. It’s also the #1 Pediatrician Recommended* cough rub and has been trusted for over 100 years to provide fast-acting cough relief. I think it’s safe to say, it works!
With a bag full of goodies and some satisfied Littles, we headed out to enjoy the rest of our day exploring Dumbo. We stopped for the perfect photo opp on Washington Street in front of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, had a delicious pizza, walked along the shoreline and took in the views of Manhattan, stopped at the famous Jane’s Carousel and capped off our day with ice cream It was pretty perfect if you ask me (and the Littles!).
