From just about the second I heard I was pregnant with a baby girl, I started daydreaming about all of the adorable outfits she would wear. The beautiful bows. The pristine sweaters. The stylish ensembles that looked like they jumped right out of a catalog. The spell was broken as soon as my girl could talk (and, coincidentally, that was pretty early on).
Apparently, I had given birth to a strong-willed little lady who followed in her momma’s control freak footsteps. She would not be told what to wear. There were arguments and tantrums (from both of us). There were tears and long, long, looooong mornings spent negotiating outfits.
Slowly I began to ask myself what does it matter what she wears? As long as she’s dressed appropriately for the season, does it really matter if the patterns she’s paired together make my eyes hurt? Not really.
The clothes we wear are an expression of who we are. There’s a certain power to giving your child the ability to decide that for themselves—to be able to express who they are freely and comfortably now, before we’re arguing with them about more permanent ways of expressing themselves.
I’m glad my daughter taught me to let go, especially since the little sister that came after her is possibly even more feisty and wild. She puts together the most out there outfits you could imagine: fleece sweatpants with fluffy skirts and two completely different shoes. Colors and patterns that clash violently topped with as many accessories as she can possibly pile on.
Their wild and crazy style is what makes me so happy that we discovered LittleMissMatched, a brand that is fun and creative and celebrates self-expression… without leaving my girls looking totally unkempt. While this brand encourages lots of color and mixing patterns, its pieces work together in a way that is bold and fun while looking intentional instead of haphazard. Even more importantly, my daughters love them. They’re confident and excited and feel like the best version of themselves. What more could a momma ask for?
LittleMissMatched was kind enough to send us some pieces from their new spring line and my girls went all heart-eyed over them. The #cool sweater and cotton candy jaspe leggings are in heavy rotation—and don’t even get me started on the tutti fruiti smelly socks! They’re completely obsessed.
Trying on their new goodies had them interested in what other new items LittleMissMatched had to offer this spring, so we shopped around their website a bit and made a list of some of our favorites. And you know what? We actually agreed on all of it.
