My 7-year old son is OBSESSED with word searches. I mean obsessed. He goes through 4 or 5 a day and I'm beginning to have trouble finding new ones. We have books but mostly we search on online and on Pinterest. Of course I'm happy to indulge him in this healthy habit. Even with all the technology he has access to, he'll often sit for an hour plus studying the jumble of letters, which inadvertently strengthens his vocabulary, spelling, and word recognition. I really appreciate that we can take them in the car and when we travel. PLUS, they're a hell of a lot better than playing a full game of Monopoly, his other current obsession.
Recently while we were searching for holiday word searches, I joked that I should make my own. He marveled at the idea and basically dared me to so this morning over coffee I tried my hand at a Martin Luther King Jr. Word Search printable. I'd estimate it's for ages 7+ (I tried to be a little tricky) and has quite a few words that will require some discussion. Sebastian has been learning about Dr. King in school lately so it's a great opportunity for us to discuss what he's learned and how feels about it. Civil rights and race aren't the easiest conversations to have with children but the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration helps to put some of it into context.
He's still working on his but I thought I'd share this free Martin Luther King Day Jr. printable here in case you have some word nerds at home too!

UPDATE: Sebastian could not believe I didn't include the answer key so here it is!
