Call for Action | "Soar with Reading" Provides Books to Kids Who Need Them Most

JetBlue and PBS KIDS have teamed up again this year for Soar with Reading, an award-winning program designed to excite and inspire kids’ imaginations to take flight through reading.

Soar with Reading

A recent study shows that there is only one age-appropriate book available for every 300 children living in under-served communities in the United States. That’s less than 1% of the number books available to children in middle-income neighborhoods.

To help address this critical shortage, Soar with Reading launched a new grant program designed to provide books directly to the children who need them most. Together with your help and the support of select local PBS member stations in BlueCities across the U.S., Central America and the Caribbean, Soar with Reading will provide age-appropriate books for thousands of children in need.

TAKE ACTION! Visit and share the name of your favorite children's book. For every submission, JetBlue will donate an age-appropriate book to a deserving child through partner Barefoot Books. Up to $200,000 worth of books will be donated through this program!

While on the site, you can access free summer reading materials, including an interactive reading list, reading tips and more. As a special thank you, adults who share their favorite book can also enter into a sweepstakes to win great prizes, including a JetBlue Getaways vacation package.

NYC EVENT 8/10: Soar with Reading is hosting a local event in Manhattan on Friday, August 10th at 10:30am at Riverbank State Park, where kids will enjoy a reading by Barefoot Books author Susan Reed, a musical performance from PBS KIDS’ Mr. Steve and more.

I will do my best to be there but everything depends on the weather these days!
