What’s Up Doc?: Washington Market Pediatrics

Doctors’ offices are not known for their high-style or beautifully designed decor. Dim lighting, dingy walls and chipped tile floors are what comes to mind until I stepped into the new offices of Dr. Tiffany Otto Knipe at Washington Market Pediatricsin Tribeca. I have never seen such carefully and thoughtfully designed offices that are truly created with their customer in mind, kids. Bold colors, clean lines, funky furniture and beautiful art (created by her patients, of course!), it’s a wonder that nobody has thought to do this before.

Dr. Tiffany, mom of two, wanted to create an environment where kids will literally beg to go for checkups. From the waiting room complete with coffee and snacks from local bakeries for the parents to themed exam rooms filled with developmental toys to put the little ones at ease; Dr. Knipe has reimagined a new concept in health care ripe for the 21st century. Using her young sons as “consultants”, they created four unique exam rooms: outer space, ocean, dinosaurs and safari. The sophistication to the design is absolutely breathtaking and the wallpaper and accompanying artwork are simply magical. Another amazing feature of the office is the in-house lab so test results can be processed on site and Dr. Tiffany can respond to any needs in a much more controlled and effective manner.

Not only is Dr. Tiffany one of the nicest people that I’ve met here in New York (she almost had me packing my bags for a move down to Tribeca, she’s so nice!) but her credentials are incredible as well. She is a board-certified pediatrician and a specialist in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She completed her three years of Pediatric residency at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center and then went on to complete three additional years of fellowship training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Yale University and New York University Langone Medical Center.

Dr. Tiffany is passionate about Tribeca and the community that she calls home. She is hosting monthly seminars and envisions her office as a meeting space for moms, dads and local businesses to come and support one another. From renowned speakers on various parenting topics to the founders of a fun new website that everyone must know about, the cozy communal space at the back of her offices are just as comfortable as your own living room, if not more so.

If you’re in the market for a pediatrician or want to meet new people at one of her gatherings, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with Dr. Tiffany and Washington Market Pediatrics.
