My daughter loves to carry little toys with her wherever she goes. From a very young age she would get attached to a special toy or stuffed animal, and over the years my husband and I have spent hours looking for her little friends in all sorts of unusual places. Once, we were on the way to the airport for an international flight, only to discover we were missing her favorite stuffed cat and we frantically made the cab driver go back to the playground in Central Park so we could look for it. No luck. My husband has also been known to order five “back up” purple cars from eBay in case her beloved toy from the movie “Cars” went missing… again. I know I’m not alone and have many conversations with other parents who routinely go through the same thing.
Enter tile, the new little gadget that attaches to your favorite items so they’ll never be lost again. It works using Bluetooth technology and links back to your iPhone through a free app so that when your tile goes missing, you simply push a button on the tile app on your phone and it will Geo-locate where you last had the item. You can ring it within 30 – 50 feet of the item, you can see it on a map or you can enlist the entire tile community to help you find your item. Once you get close to the tile, it will emit a little alarm so you can hear exactly where it is. Brilliant.
We decided to give it a try today with my daughters latest little buddy, Pink Owl. We’ve already lost one of these beloved beasts so this time we tied the tile around it’s neck and headed out into the wilds of New York City. Thankfully we didn’t have the chance to use the Geo-locator as we kept the owl in sight, but we tested it out when we were in the middle of the lake on a rowboat in Central Park, and it worked! The video on the website shows all sorts of clever uses for the tile, from bicycles to wallets and of course, keys. You can have a bunch of tiles on the go and manage them all from the app and you can even share items, like car keys, with people that you live with. You aren’t supposed to use it to track children or pets but you could put it on their backpack or shoes and it would do the same thing, right? ;)
Tile makes a great Father’s Day gift and Glamamom is offering $5 off the 4, 8 and 12 packs using code TDND15.
