Jennifer Nettles Gets Jazzy As Roxie Hart In CHICAGO the Musical

Review of the limited-engagement CHICAGO the Musical starring Jennifer Nettles as Roxie Hart.

Jennifer Nettles, the singer-songwriter and lead vocalist of Sugarland, has brought her country superstar power to the Big Apple this winter for an eight-week, limited-engagement of CHICAGO the Musicalon Broadway.

I had the pleasure of seeing Nettles more than hold her own last week as CHICAGO's protagonist, Roxie Hart, alongside Broadway veteran Carly Hughes. Believe it or not, it was my first time seeing CHICAGO on Broadway despite being a huge fan of both the movie and musicals in general. Performed live, the tale of greed, murder and show biz, with its Fosse-style dancing, is brought to another level. Nettles fits seamlessly into the cast, garnering a range of emotions from disgust to sympathy to amusement. Her voice is of course a delight and her smile lights up the stage. It couldn't be easy stepping into such big shoes.

Celebrating its 17th year, CHICAGO is one of Broadway's longest running musicals. Six Tony Awards and a nod from the New York Times as “the best musical in town,” CHICAGO is still a safe bet for date night, girls' night or out-of-towners.

If you want to catch Jennifer Nettles before her run is complete, you have until March 29th!
