alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Spring 2014 was unveiled last night in Chelsea and is being called "the crossroads of prep-meets-pretty." As with past presentations, the evening was a star-studded affair with appearances by Paris and Nicky Hilton, Kelly Bensimon, Louise Roe, Tinsley Mortimer, Chloe Bridges, Jamie Chung, Lydia Hearst, Cassadee Pope, Julie Henderson, Olympians Johnny Weir and Sarah Hughes, and former “Gossip Girls” Taylor Momsen and Kelly Rutherford. My favorite sighting of the night was Taryn Manning of "Orange is the New Black." Strange to see her in something other than a prison uniform!

The collection is built around sophisticated neutrals accented by pops of pastel. Pink, aqua, yellow and silver complement nude, bone, black, and white. Key pieces play on proportion and include mini skirts, slip dresses, crop tops, little white suits, and an updated blazer. From beaded jackets over collared shirts to modern collarless blazers paired with sexy lace short-shorts, ball gown skirts for daytime and crop tops for all the time, Bendet mixes prep with pretty in a fresh, effortless way. For me, alice + olivia is always feminine and girlie, just the way I like.

On the accessories front, white shoes will continue to trend in spring 2014. Silhouettes include delicate, strappy tapered-toes and chunky platforms with espadrille accents. Bendet also introduced two new handbag styles - the Jackie and Alli bags - rendered in snake-embossed skins and sporty perforated leathers. With the collection's understated color palette, accessories in striking bursts of light aqua green and sunny yellow provide a nice contrast. I'm bummed we have to wait until spring to see these looks in stores!

The key takeaway for moms and more "mature" wearers, other than the color palette, is to mix tailored pieces with softer, more romantic ones, and embrace embellished pieces! I'll personally be skipping the mini skirts and crop tops.
