Bonjour, mes amis! We were supposed to spend Valentine's Day in Paris this year but had to cancel at the last minute leaving me with a sizable Air France credit. When work called on Leo to be in Edinburgh and London last week, we cashed in our rain check and rendezvoused in the City of Light.
It was hard to leave the kids but they were under the watchful eyes of their grandparents and regular sitter. I hadn't been to Paris in over ten years and had never been with Leo so it was an incredible opportunity to just wander around the city with no agenda other to relax and spend time together.
Paris looked the same from my touristy vantage point. It's still running on coffee and nicotine like Sheryl Crow in the 90s. The only plans we made were to eat, and that we did. I don't care much for celebrities but I did get a kick out of sitting across from Mark Wahlberg at L'Avenue one afternoon and Ann Coulter late night at La Fontaine de Mars. Bizarre and amusing all at the same time.
I packed cute summery outfits for the weekend but it rained Saturday and Sunday and I opted mostly for jeans and sneakers. Leo insisted on taking my picture Friday afternoon (clearly he was in a vacation state of mind) so I have a little something to show of what I wore.
Everyone keeps asking what I bought as if I'm some kind of crazed shopaholic. I did get a pretty bracelet for my anniversary but other than that I felt guilty buying personal stuff when we still need so much for the house. We stayed right off of rue St. Honore and I perused many shops including the original Chanel boutique on rue Cambon to inhale the intoxicating scent of lambskin but when it comes down to it I guess I'd rather have another piece of outdoor furniture than another handbag. Proof of how much has changed in the past ten years. I wonder what version of myself will visit next?
Enjoy the rest of the week and Happy Fourth.
