Westfield Style Lounge | Garden State Plaza Mall

Garden State Plaza Mall, Paramus NJ

On a recent shopping trip to the luxe Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall just across the Hudson in Paramus, New Jersey, I was introduced to the Westfield Style Lounge, a fabulous new and complimentary resource that offers shoppers one-on-one style consultations with Style for Hire, a professional network of personal stylists hand-selected by Stacy London, fashion consultant and host of TLC's hit show (and one of my faves) What Not to Wear.

I love the concept of a style lounge because believe it or not, while fashion is certainly a passion of mine, I don't always enjoy the process of shopping. Trying on clothes is time consuming and it's easy to get overwhelmed by the seemingly endless options and evolving trends. It can be downright discouraging standing in front of a mirror under bright lights trying to determine what's practical, worth the investment, and how to style it, especially post-postpartum! I know shopping is an issue for lots of women so props to Westfield for offering this valuable amenity.

The lounge itself is an inviting little area at select Westfield locations (Westfield Montgomery in Bethesda, MD and Westfield Trumbull in Trumbull, CT, in addition to GSP) that showcases fashion apparel and accessories from participating retailers and is staffed with professional stylists willing to work within any budget to pull the latest looks and demonstrate to shoppers how to wear the season’s must-haves during one-on-one personal styling sessions.

This weekend, for back-to-school shoppers, the stylists are focusing on fashion trends primarily for girls in the tween/teen (10-17 age range).

I watched outfits being pulled for a teen girl during my visit that were not only on trend but dress-code appropriate, something I've noticed a lot of my friends are particularly concerned about when it comes to shopping for their daughters.

Samantha Brown, Style for Hire Stylist, has the following sensible but trendy tips for tween/teen girls this season:
- Mix patterns and textures to help show personality in your outfit. Make sure the patterns have at least one color in common to pull off the mix!
- As the weather gets colder, try wearing a vest over a jacket to add interest to your look.
- Layering is key. To help transition your summer dresses into the new season, add tights and ankle booties to make them back-to-school chic!
- If you're limited by a uniform, express yourself through accessories and fun school supplies.

Brandeis Johnson, Style for Hire Style Apprentice, adds:
- Think color! Use pops of color to add a unique twist to your style with belts and tights.
- Got skirts? A pleated skirt and a denim mini are great versatile pieces. Wear now with cute flats and patterned tops. Wear later with a blazer, tights, and boots.
- Makeup 101: Keep it simple and pretty by focusing on your eyes or your lips, not both. You're the star, don't let your makeup steal the show!

Of course we chatted about fall trends for the Glamamom too. I'll be trying to incorporate the following this season:
- Patterned denim
- Scarves for pattern mixing without a big commitment
- Fringe
- Floral prints
- Houndstooth
- Printed brocade
- 60's mod, minimalist
- Collar necklaces and embellished necklines
- Statement belts
- Lady-like shoes with a pointed toe
- Nail art

Have you ever consulted with a stylist? Would you? What are your favorite trends for fall?
